I am just speechless. Just had a call about a pup we bred who is just over 11 weeks old. He went off his food a week ago and the vets x rayed him. they could see some lumps so thought he had been eating something. they opened him up and found a load of lumps in his intestine. The results have come back and it is cancer in thge lymph glands of his intestine. the ownres vet has suggested chemo. I was so upset and unable to talk to his owners for long so should have asked other questions about type of cancer etc. I am at a loss to know what to say or think. Has anyone else come across this in one so young.

Poor little thing :(
Would it be worth having a second opinion ? I do know of peope who have had the wrong diagnosis on important health problems before and the dog turned out to be perfectly healthy although the owners were asked to consider putting their dog to sleep :( :( :(
Oh dear Star no experience & never heard of this but what a shock for you & such sad news. Maybe in a little while when you`ve had time to think you could ring them back & get more details & take it from there.
So sorry can`t be of more help.

Thanks
I have just e mailed them and asked if they can let me have some clinical details from their vets. I will call them tomorrow or sometime when I am less upset.

I am so sorry for you all & the puppy tomorrow you will deal with it better i am sure. take care
Jean
Star I don`t want to give you false hope which is why I never said this before. One of my pups came back to board with me when he was just on 6mths old the next day I noticed a lump on his jaw. Arranged to take him the vet the following day & it had got bigger by then. Vet did xrays & diagnosed osteosarcoma with the prognosis he wouldn`t reach 10mths. Cut a very long story short he turned 4yrs old this past October gone & the lump disappeared within 3mths of me noticing it with no treatment.
You need some time to digest this news & start to think more clearly, then check the tests that have been done & chat with the owners & if a second opinion is necessary.

:( :( :( :(

I'm sooooooo sorry :( I would want a second opinion as well.
My friends dog 6 years old was told she had cancer and had 2-3 months to live (that was this month) she passed away yesterday while she was at work :(
I no it's very hard sending prayers your way...such a young little one too
So sorry Sue. Perhaps when you have spoken with them and got all the details things will look clearer. I think I'd go with a second opinion too. :)

Have just spoke to his owners and they are going to collect him from the vet this morning. Apparently the biopsy which was done a few days ago did confirm cancer and that the cells are dividing pretty fast but still thought chemo was worth trying. I trained as a nurse so I know some types of cancer will respond better than others. Hopefully this is one of those. His owners will find out more when they speak to vet later today.:(

Not looking too good. Diagnosis is Lymphoid neoplasia but primary source not clear, possibly bone marrow or intestinal tract. Apparently happens to 1 in a million. He has started chemo and should know before long if it will respond, if not then the ultimate decision has to be made. Needless to say we are all devastated.

Hi Sue,
Unfortunately cancer knows no age barriers. I had to have a week old pup PTS as she developed a lump & within 2 days went downhill very rapidly. The vet (& I agreed) definitely thought it was something suspicious and we both agreed to let this little soul go as peacefully as possible. It didn't stop me crying buckets though. My thoughts go to you & the pup's owners.

Star, just had chance to read the thread.
I'm so very sorry. Can understand how devastated you must all be.
I'm keeping you all in my thoughts, and I hope so much that everything goes well.
Love
