I have a 7 month old Border Collie. She was a rescue dog from RSPCA and hasnt been trained at all. We have had her for about a month and she has got better. She will hover around the kitchen door when she wants to go out so we can open the door and she will wander out, but she still does her business in the kitchen when we are out on newspaper. I have tryed moving the newspaper closer to the back door to encourage her to wait until the back door is open or hold herself till we come and open it. But she just does her business where the newspaper was. Any advice or suggestions.

A month isn't very long, and you say she's made progress, so that's good :)
How long are you out for when she soils in the kitchen? Does she only do it on the newspaper? (She could have learnt that it's OK to do it on the paper, which is why I NEVER recommend so called 'paper training' - paper should only be on the floor to facilitate cleaning up) Also - what do you use to clean up after her?
It could be it isnt' a house training issue at all, but a 'seperation anxiety' problem - she's so distressed by being alone, that she's doing her buisness......

Thank you for your reply much appreciated.
Yes she is only fouling on the paper and it only seems to be wees now, I have been monitoring her over the past few days. Perhaps your right in that it could be anxiety when we are not there. I shan't worry too much about this as she is improving!!

Being a Border Collie, although come to that most dogs, will go on command if encoraged to do so. When the dog is going tell her that she is really clever and use a word like good girl hurry up, or be quick good girl. All mine have gone on command and it does help them a lot if praised when they go. Just ignore them if they go where you don't want them to go.Good Luck.
