I prefer big dogs.
Some small-ish dogs are ok
Cant stand toy dogs.
I can't generalise as the dogs I like come in all sizes and its their personality I like. To own though its big dogs as Im terrified of clumsily stepping/sitting on a small one. Think elephant and mouse.

I like the idea of big dogs, but it wouldn't be practical for me to own one given my living circumstances and lifestyle. I'm very happy with my 2 girls though :) A cavalier and a cav cross.

i've always liked and had small dogs - easy to pick up, easy to bath, don't take up a lot of room in the house or car, less shedding [hardly any with my jack russell X], don't eat a lot and i don't feel as guilty if for some reason i can't walk her on a bad day.

I love all dogs - big and small (and huge, and tiny, and hairy and........so on and so forth *lol*). I have a fear of JRTs though, and although the cause is justified, I'm aware that the judging of a whole breed isnt, but I cant help it *lol*.

I prefer dogs that are low to the ground but big such as staffies, bulldogs, french bulldogs, Bull Terrier, bassetts etc although i also like cavaliers and pugs. And i like boxer and rottweiler which are big so basically i like a broad range but generally i prefer low but stocky dogs.

Good to find a fellow sufferer who's scared of the JRT! :o

It's not just you! Apart from a golden cocker with Rage Syndrome who attacked me many years ago, I've only been bitten by JRTs and Westies. Can't say I'm keen on either - or even anything similar!

*lol* Wishfairy - one day at work we had a (suspected) Pit Bull or mastiff cross type in and a JRT. The JRT was in to be spayed, and the Pit Bull type (with a *massive* head and a pretty large boy) was in with a sore ear. I was petrified of the Pit Bull type to be honest, as I'd never met him and was new to it all (and he was in a fair bit of pain too). Well the JRT came in and she was a sweet tiny little thing (not sure what type are the tiny ones, but she was one of them, not one of the leggy ones). She was really friendly at first, then her owner left, and bear in mind this dog had been sedated - she launched herself at anyone in sight and gave me a nasty chomp on my arm right through the skin (was scarred for a while). Now I know it was a one off, and that she was nervous and that I have no reason to be scared of them (it wasnt her fault at all), but I honestly cant go anywhere near one. It's completely ridiculous, and I'm not consciously stereotyping the whole breed, but my subconscious MUST be - I feel very ashamed of it to be honest *lol*. BTW the Pit Bull type mastiffy type dog was a sweetie, so that was unwarranted too *lol*. I'm a bad dog fan *sigh*.

Like bullboy I prefer the smaller stockier breeds .
Must admit I dont like the tiny breeds and I dont have the room for larger breeds although i am quite partial to the rhodesian ridgebaCK if you class that as a large breed?
Especially dont like the slobberers

I love big/giant dogs. But do like some smaller ones as well like the boston's, frenchy's and bulldogs :)
I love all dogs but generally speaking prefer medium to large. My BSD is perfect LOL :D

Big :)
Or at least small with a big attitute... like staffs, bulldogs and the like. (except for French bulldogs who always look like they are having their temperature taken IYKWIM;))
I just don't know how you people with huge dogs cope I'm afraid medium is all I can handle and a skinny whippet medium at that, when our pup was being a little sod all I could think of was how on earth do people with Briards(spelling),Newfoundlands and Danes cope and how big are your poop scoops!!
Cheers
Steve

I must admit I like the medium size the best - and to me labradors and dalmatians are medium sized! (Especially when compared to Westies or Danes!)

We have a reasonably big detached house but I just can't see how people with big dogs manage :D Our two (Aussie and almost Aussie size) seem to take up a lot of space, even tho' they are well behaved in doors and don't charge around. Hubby originally wanted a BIG dog, but even he admits that we really don't have the room. If I had a massive farmhouse, with a massive kitchen and outbuildings - then perhaps :)
Daisy
I like all sizes of dog, but to own I only really wanted a big dog. Although Briards look hugh, they are infact a very similar weight and size of a GSD, most of their size being coat. I live in a medium sized semi, but have no problems with a Briard, although having 3 rowdy boys she tends to tuck herself into corners or under desks to avoid being trampled. (Doesn't mind when she's doing the trampling herself mind you!).

I love whippets - something about their sweet faces and temperament :D I would class them as small, but that must be me - I have a Boxer who I would class as a medium sized dog (shes about 26-27kgs) along with larger collies/labs/dalmations etc, then GSDs/larger greyhounds/bullmastiffs/other similar height dogs coming in as large, then Gt Danes and larger mastiff types coming in as giant. Is it just me who sees a Boxer size dog as medium?

Nope! I'd say boxers are medium as well!
:)

Me too. I have owned Belgian shepherds and elkhounds, boith I consider mediuym, as BSD males are up to 26 inches tall, but only weigh aroun the 25kg mark.
I consider my freinds Dobes to be large dogs, and Lavs golden Retrievers are still Medium.
Mind you I was charged as a large dog when I put our Elkie imported pouppie through Quarantine. the owners said anything larger than a Spaniel was Large???
I always say I love them all but we have big ones and I feel to get wee ones now is unfair as they would probably terrorise the biggies!!!!Only kidding.
I was sitting here thinking about me saying all I could cope with is my wee whippet and was wondering have big breeds been specifically bred to be more docile than smaller breeds or am I just clutching at straws.
thanks
Steve

I have had various breeds/sizes over the years, from a 4lb girl to a 55lb boy and loved them all as much as each other.
However in this day and age you can always consider that big dogs have bigger vet/feeding bills, need bigger cars, gardens and accomodation, leave bigger piles to 'poop-scoop' and are less welcome at friends' houses !!
Smaller dogs are cheaper to keep and much less hassle, but more vulnerable when big dogs are around - you need eyes in the back of your head on walks because too many people have no control over their dogs.
Have fun!

Pinarello - I have a 100lb Akita - I'm 5' 3" (not telling you what I weigh!!). I have to say, he's far less trouble than my other 3 who together weigh about the same as him. He's so laid back (lazy). The only problem would be if he was on the lead & decided to go the opposite way to me. There's no way I could physically stop him, but I always say it's like having a horse - you just have to have him well trained & under control. In the house, he's usually snoozing & there has to be a very good reason to make him move. Only problem is when he's lying behind a door - very hard to open with 100lb dog leaning against it!!!!
I just like dogs - size doesn't matter!!

I don't think it matters what breed you love whether big or small and in regards to how much they eat and poop out, as long has you love your breed/s that is all that matters. I too personally love the large types, one being you can see if they get under your feet and what they are up to.

Big dogs as a rule - the sort you can hug and they won't slip through your fingers! But saying that, my dobe is technically a medium breed. I have to admit though, I have got a bit of a thing for Chihuahuas. :D
