Hello this is my first time visiting this site and also my first dog. The problem is my 9 week old dobie tends to play a little rough she alwasys wants to bite my fingers, toes, chin ears etc........is this normal? also how can i explain when she gets too rough I dont want her to grow up thinking she can do this to anyone if you know what i mean. Also she will not sleep alone, if she nods off then wakes up and notices ive gone she howls like mad. Ive even tried giving her some of my clothing but this only works for a small lengh of time........PLS HELP cos i really want her to be happy in her new home thanks...Dixon

Firstly, yes, it is very normal.
All pups chew, play bite etc. It is emphasised due to teething at that age. At the moment she doesnt know right from wrong. When she begins to get too rough, ignor her, completely. Some people suggets screeching in the way that her litter mates might, this should teach her that she has gone too far.
Get her lots of teething and chew toys. Pass her one of them when it gets too much. Basically, dont let her chew at all if possible, she must learn that it is not acceptable. Otherwise you will have huge problems when she is older.
As for sleeping problems, it is just something you are going to have to be firm with im afraid. All puppies hate sleeping alone, its very new and confusing to them, but persevere. A few sleeplss nights for you may be in order, but it will benefit you in the end.
Good luck

try and offer alternative things to chew - say no to her and replace whatever part of you she's gnawing on with her own toys, she'll hopefully soon get the message!!
I have a 15week male dobe and he does seem to chew whatever gets in the way of his mouth, although they are very smart dogs and will learn quickly.
As for the sleeping alone - dobes are very much 'people' dogs and do like to be with you. Our dog is fine during the day but if he wakes he'll come looking for us. At night - well, we endured 5 nights of almost constant howling and surprisingly loud barking for such a wee fellow and no amount of earplugs and ignoring worked - we had to apologise to our neighbours for the noise!! We succumbed and he has slept in his bed in our bedroom since ( despite tut tutting from various professional folk!!) and he has been very good - doesn't make any attempt to get up to mischief and generally sleeps like a baby - apart from the snoring!!

They are wee individuals and you just have to work around their own personalities!!
