For peace of mind I think that it is well worth renewing it. Considering the cost of sorting your PC out if you got a bad virus attack, it is worth the money :)

Just bought Norton 2003 from e bay for £10. Its not a copy but a brand new original and registered for updates version.
A real good buy.
Mick

The update from symatec is going to cost 30 pound & there are so many to choose from i am getting a bit confused so i would not mind some help on this as well.thanks again

Avoid 2004 NAV as apparently major problems, others are fine.

I use AVG which is free to download on the web ..excellent anti virus package with very regular updates available :)
Grisoft AVGMelody :)
I use Norton and AVG - what one does not catch the other seems to. I update both most days

I am using this one also just now Mel and have found it to be very good.

I started out with Norton when I was new to the web, not realising I'd have to pay for updates too. I knocked that on the head before I paid a penny more! I've used Grisoft AVG ever since and I agree, it's brilliant. :) :)

we put norton antivirus 2004 on and then got a worm, we now use the AVG and 2003 norton and this works better than just one

I read these posts and then downloaded the AVG to run alongside my Norton. The AVG found a worm that Norton had missed!! I'd have never have thought to run 2 antivirus programmes, but I'm glad you lot know what's what!! Cheers! :D

Blue, can you tell me what some of the major problems are with NAV 2004? My partner swears by Norton and has used it for years without problem. He has just purchased the 2004 version though so would be interested in any problems. He also says he has not had to pay for updates with previous versions of Norton (although says it may be different with the new one).

Okay, as I run Norton I am going to run AVG along side it. Back soon :D
Edited; to say just run AVG and it found a worm Norton had not found. Well worth downloading I think.

Fiona,
Sorry missed your post, I should have gud the site out before posting LOL
I was on the AV list of all the different companies and it gave stats for each one. 2004 had 97 negitive reports.
I will try and find it again.

Thanks Pam. don't worry too much though as I think he is a Norton fan through and through (it seems he won't have anything said about it!) He still thinks its the best one around. Thanks again.

Thanks for all your help like i said i am not technical minded at all. Melody thanks for telling me about grisoft i tried to download it but think i made a blunder dont know what i did think i clicked off halfway but i have not downloaded it. Maybe i would be better sticking to walking the dog than computers.
Jean
Try giving it another go. :) Sometimes my updates don't work first time.

Norton is pretty good...good for free anyway :). It is very resource hungry, uses up loads of memory!!
AVG (grisoft?) is good...that one is free.

I've been using Norton 2004 System Works/Firewall for a couple of months now. Pain to reconfigure, but apart from that no problems (that I am aware of

) well if you discount the fact I have to disable Norton Firewall protection to access my online bank account, once in quickly enable it again

Good point is you can now find out who is trying to gain access to your computer with the nifty IP address tracer. If you are going to buy it get it from Amazon, much cheaper than Symantec themselves ;)
