I am afraid you have to perservere to overcome the whimpering. Is her bed or crate nice a snug, a little puppy likes to snuggle up to something, preferably something that smells of you, I used to put my towelling dressing gown in puppies bed for her snuggle up to, but an old jumper would do. If she is in a crate, try covering it over with a sheet, it makes them feel more secure without the sides exposed, just leave to door exposed.
Did the breeder give you a diet sheet, usually things like scrambled egg or weetabix are included and at eight weeks it is usually four small meals a day. I have never fed Iams, but I would think about half a mug at each meal would be about right.
Can't comment on the puppy pads but I am sure they are fine.
Don't worry too much, enjoy her.
Good Luck
