Hi there guys
I'm after some advice on behalf of my sister.
She has a 2 1/2 year old Staff called Sydney. She's had him for about 3 weeks now, and he's just started peeing all over her flat, despite getting let out regularly, walked etc.
He originally belonged to our brother, but then his relationship ended, and he had "custody" of Sydney. My brother worked, and we persuaded our bro to let my sister have the dog as it was soo obviously cruel keeping the dog locked in whilst he worked. I walked Syd whilst he was stuck in the flat all day, but that wasn't enough for the poor thing. I tried taking Syd to my house during the day, but my JRT hated him, and all hell was breaking out. :(
Anyway, Syd has settled in with my sis and her partner, :) and he is very much loved and very much cared for. Sis used to be a vet's assistant so she has a genuine, loving way with animals.
He's on 10mg of prednisilone (SP??) for an awful skin complaint.
Can anyone recommend anything to get him out of this peeing all over the house lark?? My sister said there's been times when he comes back in , after doing his business, then just pees on the carpet in front of them.
He's not been castrated yet, but I know she is getting him done soon....
We realise the poor lad has been through so much, and in his last months with my bro and his partner, the dog was unfortunately neglected as their son was struck with cancer....so obviously their minds were on their son, and a lot of time spent in hospital.
Sydney is a loving, obediant dog, who has been through the mill a bit. The only good thing is tho', that he's still with people he knows, rather than complete strangers.
Any advise would be very much appreciated.

There was someone on here asking pretty much the same thing and I'm sure if you do a search you will get alot of advice.
I would suggest ground him, no free time unless you can watch him 100% of the time.. He seems like he is marking his new home and saying it is his. Fixing him can help alot since the urge to do this will be much less. When they are not home I would kennel him and only allow him out while on leash so every where your sister goes so does he, and when she is unable to watch him put him in a kennel. When she see's him do this give him a side correction with the lead, or spray him with a water bottle but don't let him see. Another one is to tell him how discusted you are with him but don't get mad and yell at him. Make sure the place he likes to lift at is real clean no smell and feed him in those places as well as play with him in those places. Do alot of basic obedience, he has to learn this is their place and he has to respect it.
Or they can get a nappy to put on his penis (I think it's kinda like a diaper but just covers the penis), I'm not sure where you would get them but heard about them on another forum.
Good luck and I'm sure someone will be along with more advice :)

Thanks very much for the advice, Dollface. I'll print it off, along with any other replies I get, and then hand them to her. :)

First things first - eliminate the possibility of a urine infection - then start to deal with the marking issue. What ever the cause (medical or behavioural) the wee should be cleaned up with a solution of hot biological washing powder, then followed up with a wipe over with surgical or white spirit - this will remove any traces of scent, which will discourage him from marking over the same spot again.
