we are currently looking for a solid cocker bitch please can i aske when you say eye testing is there a certain grade to have passed or just an eye test to confirm it is all clear, we live in the kent area and have called several people that( i could get hung for saying) but sound very vague when i start asking question like what line is it from .is there any particolour breeding in it to be told oh it's nothing specail if that is what you want you'll have to look further well yes thatis what i'm doing BUT they still charge the basic £325 to the bloody ridicules£500 without giving me any information that i have asked if these dogs were not special why this amount makes me wonder is why there no endorsement on these dogs to stop (puupy farming) springs to mind . you may wonder why i have brought endorsements up but owning Newfoundlands i can see it is not so easy to breed without knowing what your at?
any how can any one help i have been given number s thanks to those people but no luck as yet .

Cockers are a very popular breed and as such there are always people breeding to make a buck without any regard to health, pedigree, temperament etc, from the large scale commercial breeders to the backyard breeders. Your best bet would be to contact a breeder via a recommendation from a Breed Club & even then, be prepared to ask the questions that you are doing already. Have you tried Sue Kettle, Secretary of The Solid Colour Cocker Assoc? If not, her tel no is 01268 554619. In Cockers, eyes are tested for PRA & all dogs used for breeding are recommended to be tested annually - there is no grade, the certificate either says "affected" or "unaffected", so it's either a pass or fail. Many of the reputable solid breeders also hip-score their Cockers so that's something else to ask about. £500 by the way is a reasonable price for a KC reg Cocker puppy from a reputable breeder - £325 is far too cheap & usually indicates unregistered pups from a backyard breeder (the type advertised in free ad papers etc).
