Hi there just had to tell everyone about what happened to my 5 year old bullmastiff on friday night last week.I had got in from work and fed him his usual tripe and mixer. An hour later he was trying to be sick without anything coming up,he was frothing at the mouth and was becoming severly distressed. His stomach had swollen up badly and he looked pregnant. As i have probably every bully book there is i knew sort of straight away what it was.A quick phone call to the vet for an emergency as it was 1.30am we rushed him in and the vet told me and my wife it didn't look good as he just layed on the floor and didn't want to move.I had to lift him(9 and a half stone ouch my back) onto the operating table and then had to leave and wait for a phone call at home. After what seemed a lifetime but was 2 hours we was told he was doing o.k and that his stomach had twisted nearly 360 degrees!. Well we finally picked him up yesterday after a considerable amount of care by the vets and we couldn't be happier and thankful to the vets for his quick actions. It is amazing how quickly it came on and i would like to know if anyone has had a similiar experience. We seem to think that it was caused by him playing with his 16 week old daughter after he had eaten which caused his stomach to twist. Many thanks for listening.

Oh yes we have had it and yes i would think that playing after eating did bring it on so you must not let them do this again, they eat then you should put him away some where on his own so he can rest for a good hour or so, as this can and does happen again, i am pleased your boy is okay? but watch him from now on.

You have been very lucky, i lost my boy Chester 2 weeks ago to bloat, unfortunately it happened during the night when he was in his kennel, and i was not with him.
Hope your boy continues to improve, did the vet warn you that it could happen again. I don't want to worry you, but do keep and eye on him.

I lost Cassidy 12 months ago on his third episode of bloat. I decided to have him put to sleep because I couldn't bear the thought that I might not be there to help him, if/when, it happened a fourth time. It's a damned awful thing to go through.

Hello. Do you feel guilty because she was in kennel? But you shouldn't, my dogs are in the house all the time, still if one had bloat at night I probably wouldn't know either...

Hi I feel guilty because I did not kennel her until 11 oclock that nite she had been to a show that day and no signs of anything. when I put her to bed, I hate to think that she suffered whilst I was not there to help her or at least her knowing that I was there I helped to deliver her and she was always a part of life at my kennels, and its 1 year since this happened and I still feel awful, and I miss her terribly
