Topic Dog Boards / Health / Silly question about teething!!

I know this will seem really silly but .... here it is any way.. My pup has lost her teeth at the front top absolutely fine but at the bottom she hasn`t lost any but her new teeth have grown through giving her a layer of double teeth at the front. My rather silly question is.. when her baby teeth fall out on the bottom will this mean that her adult teeth will grow at an angle because her baby teeth are still in the way now. I didn`t want to panic and take her to the vets and have them removed if this is normal, I am giving her loads of things to chew on hoping this will help them to fall out.

By the way the advice I have read about a tea towel in the freezer really does work !!!

No question is silly Suzy if you need to know the answer :) I think your pups teeth will be fine, but I'm sure someone else will be along who has experience of this happening with a pup. You're doing the right thing, giving her things to chew on.

Not silly at all. Just keep an eye on her. If she seems to be in distress, you may need to have her teeth out at the vet, otherwise leave her be for now. She would have to have a GA to have baby teeth removed, & you don't want that unless absolutely nec.so just hope they fall out of their own accord, which they probably will.

Agree, give hard things to chew and hard biscuits, but if they don't shift in about 7 days let the vet take a look.

Not silly at all, and it can be worrying. It happened to my bitch and her daughter. The youngest one was almost 5 months and I was concerned as she was at her first show at 6 months and two days (champ show too). I saw the vet who said if they hadn't come out by five and a half months she would remove them. A week later, out they popped. When the second teeth grow, they dislodge the baby teeth. Sometimes it can take a little longer than average if they are strong or slightly mis-aligned baby teeth.
