I have talked to the owners of one of my pups and discussed training classes. They will be attending the same class that we took our bitch to. However the person who runs the class has told them to bring the pup at 8 weeks as they don't have to wait until the pup is innoculated. I disagree and have told them not to take the pup until after the jabs, as they could pick up anything from the other dogs. Has anyone heard of pups attending training classes before they have their jabs?

I have but I would not do it. If the trainer wants them to start early then I feel she should visit them or ask them to attend without their pups.

Some puppy preschool classes here start when pups have had their first vacs but not their second, so probably falling into that 8 week-ish category. I was a bit late getting around to it, so when Nikki went she'd already had both jabs and was the oldest pup there (although one of the smallest, being a toy dog).

at our ring craft we will have pups from 8 weeks but it is the owners desison and they are not allowed on the floor, we have them there as long as they are being held or on laps so they can get used to noise, other dogs and other people.

when you think of it when you leave the house you come back, what are you bringing in urself? do you hav a shower after every outting you take untill the pups had both jabs?

we took Darcy from eight weeks old but like already said kept her on our laps at the side of the room. It helped her get used to the noise and smells before she had to actually start learning

I really don't think it's worth the risk

I have always taken my dogs to classes as soon as I get them & they are in a crate or on my knee with my little ones, none of them has ever had any problems & I believe it has had benefits that far outweigh the risks

I have taken puppies as young as 9 weeks to ringcraft too. I believe the benefits outweigh any possible risks.

I always take my puppies to club at around 8 weeks old but I warn everyone to keep their dogs away and my puppy sits on my lap. It never touches the floor. I use it as part of my socialisation of the puppy.

Are these any classes any different than the "classes" the vets do called Puppy party classes which are held for all puppies? Which are highly reccomended for non inocculated pups?
I guess it depends on a whole series of things.. what the age of all the OTHER pups? Cleanliness of the floors, disinfected etc. As a previous post stated, viruses can be brought home on our clothes. Sometimes the benefits do outweigh the risks.. DEPENDING!!!

The one I mentioned was puppy preschool held at my local vets, so all the pups were in that age group. Classes were held in the evening in the waiting area. The place looked clean.. I think they did a general mop of the floors after the surgery closed and before the classes started. Mop and bucket on standby for random piddles. :)
