This is precisely why I told all the breeders, that I was checking into, that I was not going to purchase a puppy until Febuary, Fall is way too busy because of b-days and christmas and such. And by Febuary everyone is usually back to their routine and everything is nice and calm. Perfect time for our shepard to come into our home. What I have heard people do who have done the research and know they are ready for a dog and found a breeder and such is put a card under the tree with a picture of the coming puppy and details about it. Then it says they will pick up the puppy in the middle of January or Febuary when the holidays slow down. You still get the wonderful joy of a pup on christmas morning without the worry and stress. That way the pup comes into the home when things are nice and calm. But I really stress for this one to work put in the time to do the research into finding the perfect breed and the right puppy and make sure over and over agian you will have time to train it and can afford it.

my bitch was late coming into season this year, i'd placed a notice on my Website that i had a mating planned soon...

you wouldn't believe how many e-mail i got asking if puppies would be ready for Xmas.... :-(

Well everyone knows a puppy isent just for christmas think we got that long ago!

Any pups that get ditched this christmas should be the fault of the breeder!! as we all know any decent breeder would risk this happeneing.

Mabe there should be some kind of chip that carrys not only the owners info but the breeders too and this should be in place before the pup at its new home.
that way the rspca can ring the breeder up and let them know see if they want there pup back . and this could be handy for all year round. im sure all good breeders would like to know if your pups ended up in the rspca kennel at any time of year.
Question is would you all go get them out??
I know i would , and if one person gets one out that means one less in that kennel.

There were 5 different litters of puppies for sale in my local paper last night :-( Some even said 'ready for xmas'

From my experience the RSPCA don't even let breed rescue know they have one of their breed in rescue unless they think there is a very good chance they will get an 'adoption fee' for the dog, but retain ownership should it stray again, or need to be removed from the new owner etc too much money would be lost otherwise.

So the rspca are just after money from people isent that a bit bad
