hi all when do lhasa's start to look like lhasa's if that makes sence i have two who are nearly 5 months old and still look like the same as when i got them also is it common for two dogs of the same litter and colour to look so diffrent what i mean one has a small head the other a fat one and one's tail curls more then the other i know this qs are silly but i would like to know so if you can help please do

the right time to breed-if you feel you must---is when you know your breed inside out-the health issues---which lines are compatible etc---------also recognising the breed would be an advantage ------why do you feel you want to breed them, ???

i feel i want to breed them because i think are animals should have the chance to breed once b4 getting them done are you a breeder your self if so what sort of health issues do you mean also i have papers to say the dogs are kc and al that but when i look at books and go on the internet to look the breed up my dogs dont look like the puppys in the pictures

having your bitches speyed without having a litter lessens the risk of mammary cancers, ---they really dont need to have a litter at all,
did you buy your pups from a well known kennel, was breeding discussed. --also if anyone breeds it should be for the betterment of the breed, from good examples. -youve only got to readon champdogs how many folk mate up there bitches and lose them
and yes i now breed, -but ive shown dogs around 19 years before i bred my first litter. asking and learning as i went,

As Anwen says, your Lhasas (like all dogs) should only be bred from if they are good examples of the breed. If they are very different in appearance, logic says that at least one of them isn't - maybe both are wrong. Before you consider breeding, you should study the breed standard till you know it inside out, and attend lots of shows so that you learn what a correct Lhasa looks like!

If you would like to e mail me I can give you the address of an e mail site I am on and the people on there are a mind of information. Remember just because your have KC reg dogs that is not a good enough reason to breed. Not being an expert myself the e mail site has many experts :) My Barney started to look like a lhasa when his coat grew properly. There are photos of members dogs on the site too which you can compare your little ones with :D

As Dizzy says, before you start to breed you should know your breed inside out. Your questions show that you are a novice. Nothing wrong with that & the fact that you are willing to ask questions shows that you are willing to learn.
Please listen to the advice of other Apso owners, go & see as many other Apsos as you can.
Your bitches do not need to be bred from. You should only breed if your bitches are good, healthy examples of their breed & to decide whether or not they are, you need to gain experience. You also need to be sure that you can find suitable homes for any puppies you do breed & that you are prepared to take back any puppies at any stage in their lives.
I was only in my breed 5 yrs before I bred a litter, but I had the breeder of my first bitch to give me invaluable help & advice.

Could you please email the Lhasa site to me also, The first breed I every started showing with was Apso's in the 1970's and still have a great interest, would have another on but him in door's say's no, but still go round the ring when we are showing on the same day.

Either their own breeders (as shown on their registration certificates) or contact the breed club who will have a list of members near you. Good luck!
