Topic Dog Boards / General / Which Dummy?
- By PaulaD [gb] Date 12.11.03 13:42 UTC
I bought a dummy a month ago for my 2 labs, when playing at the river. I was finding they nearly choked on tennis balls. Seeing them now, I can't believe how excited and keen they get... they now jump from the riverbank and swim like the clappers.

Anyway, my question is... what sort of dummy do people suggest? The current one has already fallen apart. I see there are gun dog dummies, which look plastic, and there are canvas dummies filled with cork. Will the canvas dummy get rotten if used in water every day?

Thanks :)

I would have thought if you hang the wet dummy up to try somewhere, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Paula
I bought two dummies from Turner Richards about 6 or 7 months a go, I bought two because I thought being canvass they wouldn't last very long, I'm glad to say I'm still using the first one, its looking very faded now but the canvass has lots of life in it, I think the key is whether you allow the dogs to play rough with them, Our dummy is used soley for retreiving and finding after being hidden, its picked up and brought straight back to the hand, and because its a high value item Heidi is all the more excited about seeing it come out of the bag. Tennis balls on the other hand are for playing with and a tennis ball is luck if it see's a week out.

I have two canvas dummies which are over 10 years old. They dry out fine. I have several newer ones, some from Turner Richards. They are all great.
