Remember the cretin that transported 49 pups and some kittens from Ireland to Scotland and got caught. The pups were siezed and the SSPCA had to take care of them...some I think had to be PTS...............Well he has been fined £500. I cannot believe this. That is what, equivelant of 2 puppies and he is still advertising in the local press daily.
It is on BBC Scotland News web site but I cannot do a link.

That doesn't surprise me at all  The law just is not tough enough on people like this and a paltry fine like that isn't going to stop him is it!!!

That is ridiculous

He should have been banned from keeping/owning/having ANYTHING to do with dogs.....no, make that animals, for life! :(

Although he is also ordered to pay £2,900 costs to the SSPCA for treating his animals, I agree he should be banned from animal contact for life. Animal charities who fail to investigate complaints of cruelty/ prevent animal suffering ( ref to post on dogs in abandoned house) should also be subject to legal action.

I could not agree with you more, this will not stop him. He is still advertising pupies for sale although as far as I am aware (unless situation has changed in last few weeks) he is not licensed to buy in and sell puppies.
This situation has been highlighted by the Scottish SSPCA who have prosecuted (I am pleased they have) when the vehicle transporting the puppies was interecepted entering Scotland. Puppies have been entering the UK by ferry from S Ireland and N Ireland for years and by numerous agents and dealers all supplying the puppy trade. The RSPCA has known about this trade not only operating from Ireland but from Wales too, yet they NEVER organise themselves to intercept and search a vehicle that is entering England, why? Because it is in their own words low priority. Yet the puppies are travelling in just as bad conditions if not worse and suffer from the same health conditions and worse than these puppies some dying after reaching the pet shops.

Talking of siezed pups ive just got back from training and my friend has informed me has heard a few weeks ago that a lorry full of dogo argentino pups managed to get through our restrictions although it was found a few days later and some of the pups were missing, they could have been sold?

In response to your post its dreadfull when this happens, why peopole can get away with this is beyond me.

They had actual footage on Border News of the animals, the three cats in a cat box, and the rest of the puppies in other small cat boxes, in one box it looked like 5/6 puppies crammed in - definately no room to sit/lay down, or even turn round.

Like Pat said, this is not a one off run, this route is used repeatedly. I bet we do not read of anymore people being stopped. Even more busy with the run up to Christmas, the Puppy Farmers and the Pet Shops busiest time.

It is not the only route used by the puppy dealers to enter the UK by ferry. Then there are the routes by air at least with these the carriers have rules and regulations, where as anyone can use/hire a transit type vehicle, boot of a car, caravan or lorry to transport puppies, there are guidelines for transporting but no one checks the vehicles adequately enough to bother to find out what they are carrying. As usually the trade continues and so does the suffering.
