My cairn terrior has had sore ears for around 1 year and the vet keeps giving him steroids, antibiotics and ear drops it clears up for a little while then it gets just as bad as ever,
the vet is now talking about an operation to possibly remove the inner ear, can you help in any way as i have tried everything else.
thanks A

Hi Guest
A lot of us use Thornit to keep our dogs ears fresh and clean. If you do a search of the Forum for Thornit you'll find lots of info in other threads. Hope this helps :)

I agree - Thornit has been known to cure the 'uncureable' - got to be worth a go..
Hi A
Do you know why your dog has sore ears - infection, mites, allergy ?
Do you feed your dog anything with yeast in it? I would try an elimination diet with him. Maybe try raw chicken wings and nothing else except water (no treats, househouse scraps and definitely no grain products) for a month and see if anything improves. If it does improve then introduce some fresh finely minced vegetables but still no grains.

My old Danny Boy (Retreiver) had this problem s few years back , he was treated for ear mites , infections , "yeasty ears" nothing worked over a period of 7 months , I took him to another vet who carried out the small operation of removing some of the inner ear ( to allow air flow so bacteria would not be prone to reproducing) and with 3 weeks the ear was back to normal , as it was part of the inner ear , you could not tell that anything had been done when looking at him unless the ear part was lifted up - so in the end the £100 op saved me spending another £500 !!

My Afghanx had the same problem, vet kept saying ear mites/infection/allergy(he was allergic) and wanted to open the ear canal in his neck for it to drain - with all that hair!!

Over the years it cost us a fortune in steroids and ear treatments which didn't work. I kept asking him to check for a polyp but was pooh-poohed . I insisted that they check for a polyp when they did his teeth and guess what??? - yup a POLYP, on a very long stalk which was easily removed without opening his neck. He never had any trouble after that :)

HEY I KNOW THIS MIGHT SOUND REALLY STRANGE BUT IT WORKED FOR MY BT. A DOG DIETION TOLD ME THAT YOU CAN MIX 2 PARTS WATER AND 1 PART LISTERINE (UNFLAVORED) AND DIP A COTTON BALL IN THE SOULTION AND WIPE THE INSIDE OF THE EAR AND THAT WILL KILL ANY BACTIREA IN THE EAR CANAL!!! I GUSSE IF YOU THINK YOU ABOUT IF KILLS GERMS OF THE MOUTH THE DIRTIST PALCE ON THE HUMAN BODY IT CAN KILL GERMS IN THE EAR TOO!!!!!

Listerine has alcohol in it and could sting badly if the skin is broken. Colloidal Silver is a non stinging pre antibiotic disinfectant safe enough to bathe eyes, ears and to be used in drinking water. Alternatively sterile saline solution, the kind that people use for contact lenses.
Thornit is excellent for ears.
