Hi everybody.
My Old English Sheepdog (named Merlin) is 16 weeks old. After reading through all the advice on here and also asking my vet(who I reckon is biased because of what he sells), I am now completely baffled and somewhat confused over what's best to feed him.
He is currently on Dr. Johns (Gold). Is this good enough? I'm worried about protein, I've heard too much can be bad? Also, I just leave his bowl full-is this right or should I give him individual meals?(I've had mixed opinions on this too). I just want some sound advice and the best for Merlin! Thanks. Eleanor.
I dont know about dr john but i would suggest that you should use a food especially for large breed pups. I agree that vets are often a little to keen to sell you the food that they stock...often at extremely inflated prices.
Hi Eleanor
You will find as many opinions on feeding dogs as there are owners of dogs on this board :) There is no one right or wrong way just as there is no one way to feed children or ourselves.
Pick a way of feeding - dried, tinned, complete, raw but try not to let your pup get fat or grow too fast.

Hi
Our OES is now 14 mths old and for the first 12 moinths we stuck to what the breeder advised us to use as she had also fed him it and that was Eukanuba for Large breed puppies.
Of course it was supplemented with whatever he could steal from the kitchen which as you will find increases as his size enables the worktops to be reached!!!
We have used the one our vet recommends but like you I felt they were biased! I think that was Hills and just as he turned a year we put him onto Chappie!! which I thought was cheap but came highly recommended from another vet, until I found Dr Johns last week! so he is now on Dr Johns although hubby is concerned it says for working dogs and he is not so is worried he may build up a lot of bulk! which may be why Dr Johns is OK for a large breed puppy as it will help him to grow during the first 6 months when they do grow SO FAST !
