i recently bought a staffy from some lovely people who went on about how wonderful she was, an they couldnt keep her cos they were goin back to work (fair enough!!) so i took her to the vets an guess what, shes pregnant so i think thats why they were gettin rid of her, which is nice of them to tell us!! anyway...i was wondering if anyone has got any idea how much the puppy vaccinations will cost an when they will need them??? please help me!!!!

Unless you intend on keeping a puppy you won't need to wory about the cost of vacinations as they usually have them between 8 and 12 weeks after they have been sold.
The main thing is to make sure you are aware of what will happen during pregnacy and whelping and what you will need to do and know.
After that its a case of finding good homes for the babies-theres a lot of unsuitable people who want staffies for the wrong reasons
Good luck,Archer

 My old dog came to me pregnant and it wasn't easy!

If you can ring these people and let them know she's expecting, tell them you have every intention of keeping her but could they please give you any iidea who the 'stud' might be??? I daresay they won't tell you but you'd be as wise to try and find out - in case it was a much bigger dog or something totally unsuitable :(

Might also help you to rehome them - and like mentioned above be really careful who takes them, there's a lot of bad staffy owners :( :( :(

You have an Akita male.... We have two bitches lol.
My advise would is be very careful. Dependant on you're male Akita's temperament as to whether you should keep a puppy. Especially if you want to keep a male. You don't know the back ground of the "sire" for you're puppies, so you have no idea what the pups will turn out to be. If io were you I wouldn't keep one, but that is just my opinion, we have a collie with our two bitches and he gets on great with them both, however he is a much smaller submissive dog.

For the pregnancy and delivery try and get your hands on the book of the bitch, i have it and it is a great book. It tells you all you need to know about pregnancy and birth right through. Hope this helps....... Good luck xxx

I own a male Akita. He gets on fine with my 2 bitches (one here when he came & one introduced as a 8wk puppy BUT I have to keep him & my old dog (not an Akita) permanently apart. I wouldn't even consider keeping a male, they might get on, but why take the risk

thank you very much everyone!!! i phoned the people an they acted clueless but they said if it had happened when she was with them (which it must have!) then it would be the another white staffy downstairs, then they started goin on bout how much the puppies could sell for sayin it was perfect timing for me to get her!!! not for me!! i've asked my friends an family an a few people have said that they would want one, so that should be ok! i won't be keepin one, but im worried bout whats goin to happen wen they are born cos of my akita, do u think it would be best to give my akita to my mum an dad until the puppies are old enough to be given away or do you think he will be alrite? lots of people have said that dogs are better with puppies an he will be better but all you people seem to know what you are talkin about so once again any help would be great!!!!! x x x

You know your Akita best.I was petrified when I introduced my 8 wk old ... until I found she's squeezed into his run unsupervised!! He was wonderful with her, played really gently.
BUT, a whole litter of baby puppies is different - if you have any doubts & your mum & dad are willing to take your Akita on, that might be the answer. You also have to consider that the bitch will probably be very protective of the puppies & won't hesitate to take on the Akita if she thinks he's a risk.
Good luck!

I agree completely. A protective mother will not think twice about protecting her babies from "prey". I personally would house the akita with your parents if you do not have the facilities to seperate them for the period.
Hope all goes well

When my girl had her puppies, my two male dogs were kept away from her and the puppies,
she was in the house and they had to be kept in the kennels and run, when the puppies started the weaning process, Lollie would go into the kennels for a short while, so she saw the boys, i introduced the puppy i was keeping to my two boys at the age of six weeks, but only while i was with them all and only for a few mins at a time with my bitch there too, i had no problems. At no point did they meet all the puppies.
This was my experience hope it helps. Forgot to say my dogs are bullmastiffs i do not have any experience with akitas sorry.
