I'm not quite sure how you stop them. I have a 6 mth old Staff and he loves to dig! arrgghhh! Whenever we give him a chew or bone, he disappears straight off into the garden and starts to dig a hole in the lawn, flower beds etc. we tend to say STOP! in raised voice and then get a wet cloth and rub his nose clean...which he hates and will not go back out and dig..well not for a few days! but at least his digging is becoming less frequent, and my flowers/lawn are surviving :-)

My Cocker started digging voraciously at about 6 months and made a 3 ' hole in the middle of a lovely planting bed! We only got him to stop by going out in the garden with him and telling him off (and shooting him with the water pistol) for doing it and treating him for 'coming away' until he got the message took about 2 weeks! he doesn't tend to dig in the garden now, but then again i don't really let him out in the garden for long periods of time at the mo due to the weather...........
