Hello All
Could anyone recommend what is the best type of cage or crate for our new puppy ?
We will be collecting him on 3 week, and he will be an 8 week old west highland terrier, I have seen the type which look like bird cages ( dont look very cosy for him) and I have seen the type which look like small tents ?
Which would be best for a puppy of this type and size ?
Any help or advice would be great
Regards
Simon and Laura

Hi,
Get one of the cage ones - he'll chew and destroy a fabric one within hours!
Put his blankets inside the crate, and a blanket over the top to make a nice cosy draught-free den, and he'll be fine!

I agree with Jean - the wire ones are the best - to make it more cosy you can cover it with a blanket or similar (but make sure the pup can't pull it between the bars and chew it!) Re size - get the biggest you can afford that will fit in your house...... To restrict the area available to the pup (and so help with housetraining) place cardboard boxes inside so the pup just has enough room to lie down outstreached and to turn around...... Once he is reliably clean you can remove the box (or boxes).

So what would be a good price to pay for one of these cages ? What kinda prices have you guys paid in the past
I saw one in the argos for £40 odd pounds, but I thought it looked a little small
Are there any good large pet chain stores anyone can recommend for all my pet needs ??

i brought one for my jrt from pets at home for £50 ish made by rosewood, best thing i brought ever.

Have a look on ebay, there are quite a few at very resonable prices, before you pick you puppy up it would be a good idea to ask you breeder if you could leave a blacket with her for a few day so puppy has comforting smells with him when he comes home this could help him settle better in his cage

Hi, I agree with britney, I got mine from Ebay for my Great Dane puppy, it's huge and I think it was only around £70 :)
It was delivered the next day too, and I have to say Diesel loves it, it's his own 'little' place away from all the hustle and bustle of homelife.
