Have any of you used any tests for evaluating puppy.
I have just read about one such test at the Dogstuff site.
Just wonder if any of you do any other kind of testing for temperament
evaluation. If so I would love to here about it.

Some tests that you can use are.
Putting the puppy on his back on there floor and hold him there gentley , if he struggles like mad then he is quite an bold out going top dog, but if he is gentle and submits to you then all the better.
Also there is the keys test , jangle some keys ( not in his ear ) but not to far away and drop them on the floor if he runs a mile then you have a shy pup but if he stays where he is or goes to investigate you will have a brave little soul, these tests are very broad and you always get an exception to the rule.
Hope this helps a bit

I use the Volhard's method of puppy assessment at 49 days old. It's useful to pick out your own pup, and to aim new puppy people towards a suitable pup, but you can't always convince the new owner!! Nor have that much control over their future training, of course; only that of your own pup.

I find it particularly useful for picking the better potential workers.

This is true but two of my pups are going to good kennels in Finland.
One for show the other for agility. Plus one to Holland as pet.
All the people in question will be putting a lot of time and energy into them. I would really like to get it right. Oh and they are not picking there
dogs i am.
