I have just got back from taking Jazz for a walk and I met this woman in the woods who told me in no uncertain terms to put Jazz on a diet. The b----y cheek of some people. Not only did she tell me he was fat but also that he would do no good in a show. Sorry folks just had to get that off my chest.

Hi Emma

no you should have been really nasty and said well ha can go on a diet what can you do about your face :D
Hi Rachael
As the owner of a lab yourself I am sure you know how greedy they can be or is it just Jazz? . It wouldn't of been so bad but she was walking two greyhounds!! nothing against them but they are completely different builds to a lab. Anyway he isnt fat just pleasantly plump:D. I have seen labs alot fatter than my baby.

Some people really are clueless aren't they......
Hi Sooz
What dog/s do you have? and what are they called?. As for Jazz sitting on her it might of shut her up:D, he is a heavy lad when sat on you:D

I have a Blue Roan Cocker Boy called Perry, he's currently out with his mate Tinker on the common!

I know it's cheeky, Michelle, and I'm sure Jazz isn't fat, but I wish I had the guts to tell some people that their dogs are obese. Perhaps the poor things would have happier lives.
Does 'pleasantly plump' exist when it comes to dogs? Surely there's only underweight, the correct weight, and over-weight?
No offence intended.

JG that's so true, we have a lab round where we live and he's a lovely boy, but he is so fat, he can hardly walk. You can hardly see his legs for the rest of his body, and he spends the whole of his time panting away for the life of him. It's so sad, he belongs to an old man, who walks him down our street every night, and I've been told that he would rather feed the dog than himself !! That's sad, he doesn't know he'll slowly be killing him with kindness. And Michelle, I bet Jazz is gorgeous, and not fat, there's a difference between a healthy, happy animal and one that needs to go on a diet. Tell her to get stuffed, if you ever see her again ;)

Tell me how do you all now he`s not fat if you cant see him, maybe your the ones who are wrong, I know its not a very nice thing to say, but it might be true and an overweight dog is not good.

Sorry, I just like to defend and support my CD comrads. I would say a fare percentage of members are responsible owners of their breeds that are members of champdogs.

As a fellow lab owner it should also be pointed out that it's not always easy to get a good idea with labs. Obviously some are clearly obese but some of them seem to have so much extra skin ...my lab is only a size 10 but she insists on wearing a size 16 :)

Gee im the same as your lab Im secretly a size 8 but wear size 14.
No offence taken:) When I say Jazz is pleasantly plump I say this for two reasons 1. He was seriously underweight when we got him from the rescue centre so he obviously looks alot fatter (healthy fatter):D and 2. He has recently been castrated and the vet said he would put weight on which he has but he is carefully monitored and well exercised.
I too wish I had the guts to tell some people that their dogs are fat. My auntie had a MLHD when i was alot younger that died from obesity:( its belly was that fat in the end it used to drag on the floor. Needless to say I have never forgotten it and would never want an animal to go through that.
Michelle:)

There was a lab who had won his CC at a show this year and BOB, to those of us outside the best in show ring he looked overweight, but there again they are very different to their working counterparts. Still felt that the was overweight though!! It does seem that Lab's are becoming, should I say chunkier.
As long as he's happy etc. and he's able to do everything that a dog should do for that age, why should some cheeky so and so say something?
My old girl is chunky (SWD), her daughter who is 10 is lean!! Her daughter is solid and all muscle and my ickle man to me is too thin but he eats like a horse. We can't all be lean and wonderful looking now can we?
Hi :)
Your dogs sound lovely what are the called? I totally agree with what you as long as they're happy etc and Jazz definitely is bless him.
Michelle:)

This was the funniest post!! If someone told me to put my dog on a diet I would take his muzzle off and say "there's a big Twirl Copper" and see if he would go for them. Cops loves Cadbury's Twirls and I'm sure would chew anyone's leg just for a wee treat. My dog is not fat or obese but people have insulted him terribly because of his bad temper and I feel insulted sometimes when its all their dogs fault in the first place. I think all the champ dogs should have a show of their own. Mine would be the greediest or the grumpiest - first prize!

Cg what are you trying to do put all people off dogs. Most CD`ers breed for, and are proud of, their dogs for their dogs good temperment but you are obviouslly proud of your dogs bad temper. Also dont you understand that an obese dog is at as much risk as humans, if not more so.

Wow!! Huffeeeee - actually my post was supposed to be lighthearted - I am not proud of my dogs bad temper at all and I'm having him professionally lectured about it as anyone that has read any of my other posts will know. Dunno what you read into my post but obviously not what was intended. I also take very good care of my dog and he is most certainly not obese in any way (despite the Twirls). And JG, I do not intend to breed my dog so it's another poster you must be thinking of. If my dog was of good breeding quality (and his pedigree is outstanding) he wouldn't be a rescue dog and with me. Judge me as you will but please do not doubt my total commitment to my dog. Thanks.
CG.

No offence intended CG - as was clear by my admission I may well have got you confused with someone else!
:)

Och that's OK JG I'm not really offended, just that post by Paladin hacked me off. And sorry, Paladin but you just came across like I was just a jakey with a grumpy dog and proud of it! Honestly not the case !

Well here's a line that made me laugh when my 10 1/2 year old daughter said this to my 9 year old son in a light hearted debate.
"What are you gonna do for a face when the baboon want's it's bum back!"
Hope that cheered up a few of you - now go out there and use it wisely to any one who disparages your dogs!

Is this the dog you want to breed, CG, or am I getting confused? (It happens now and then! :o )

HMmmm is he fat? or just big boned LOL, what dog did she have with her a whippet? should have told her not to worry about it cos its none of her bloody business, and fancy saying it in front of your dog that could cause anorexia!
Love that Jackie:D :D :D She was actually walking 2 greyhounds as I said earlier no offence to greyhounds I love em but they are not the same build as labs.
Michelle:)
People can be cheeky, like the lady at our obedience classes who told me Morse was a bag of bones last week and that he had worms "obviously" the week before, but I try and make a joke of it as much as possible. Most folks I meet are great. :)

Our youngster is a skinny gawky youth and I used to spend my time saying to people who looked at him askance "honestly, we do feed him" and "really, he will end up looking like that one when he matures". But now he's improving a bit and people we meet on walks are now saying "oh, he's coming on now" etc, which makes me feel much better!

I get worried bout my pooch being thin because she Simply wont eat unless shes starving or i offer her fruit. but the vets always say what a lovely size she is,, she must be doing somthing right herself. but beau dosent mind:D wonder why..um more food
Look next time you see her tell her what skinny labs she has ;) ask her if they have a health problem :P
Hi :)
Oh bless her if the vet says shes o.k and shes happy I wouldnt worry too much its hard though I know. Shes obviosly watching her figure and not being fat like Jazz;). They both sound adorable what colours are they?. My dad had cockers when he was young and still loves em must admit so do I :D
I'd always admired labs at a distance but Jazz picked us so we didn't have a choice!! but I would not be without him, and am obsessed with labs aswell now.
Michelle:)
Jazzywoo,if it had been me I would probably have only 2 words for the woman, and I won't repeat for fear of being kicked off by admin!!!Sandra,I have 2 chunky akitas and 2 racy akitas
Hi Sandra:)
You could of got your racy akitas to chase her away;) or the chunky to to jump on her :D, no seriosly though I know what people say when dogs are really obese/ overweight but he isn't!!.

My Tervy-boy is underweight, but he eats. He's just so active he can't keep it on, :).
That Paladin lady seems a little harsh. Don't worry about people like that...
