My 5 month old dog started with a cough a couple of weeks ago. I asked the vet and at the time he said that it was nothing to worry about. In the meantime she has had diarohea and she is still coughing. In the past two days my other two dogs have started making a rasping sound from their throat and occasionally coughing, one of them had diarohea today. Can anyone help ? Is there a cure for these coughs or do you have to let them run their course ?
I'm obviously going to inform my vet on Monday but i thought someone may put my mind at rest before then. I must also say that the dogs appear to be fine in themselves apart from these symptoms

Sounds typical of Kennel Cough. Keep your dogs away from others and use a child cough mixture to help with the cough.

Hi folks,
My 14 week old Lab has started coughing the last couple of days he has no contact with other dogs other than if we bump into another whilst walking. Will this cough sort itself and if so how long should it take. He did have a bath on Wed and although i was very careful to make sure he was fully dry before going out might this have started it off????

Bathing the dog will not cause Kennel Cough, it is caused by an infection and that is passed from dog to dog or on peoples feet or clothing. Unless you become worried about him he will not need treatment, should be become poorly or you are worried take him to the vet but do not take him into the waiting room, tell the receptionist that you have a coughing dog in the car and they will either come out to the car to see him or fetch you in via a different door

If you are worried don't hang about. I have just been through the same thing exactly with my three. The two 5 month old pups did not require vet care but the diahorrea became really bad coupled with vommiting in my lab. I don't mean to worry you but she became very sick and has needed vet's help. She was very dehydrated so don't let the runs go on too long.My surgery wanted me to bring her to an appointment so as not to put other dogs at risk.
Hope you see an improvement soon.
Gill :)

You're so right. :D I took my 5 year old to the dentist today after complaining about toothache and when we got there first she didn't have a sore tooth and then she did but it was a different one. Dogs and kids...who'd have them. Maybe I should add men to that list but I daren't risk it. :D
