We have a 5 month old Samoyed little girl pup - VERY bouncy and playful. We also have two VERY gentle but not terribly friendly tiffanie cats. We are thinking of buying a Siamese kitten. Has anybody out there had experience or can help us to decide whether it is a good idea to mix these breeds.

Siamese cats should get on well with the dog. My mum used to breed and show burmese and they are very much alike to siamese in temperament. In many ways they are like a dog, they want attention are intelligent, playful and most of all they are mischievous! So you shouldn't have any problems there.

Hi,

I have a burmese & a siamese with 2 Rhodesian Ridge backs and a mini dacshund, when my dacsi isnt trying to hump my siamese they are inseperable, infact I know my siamese prefers my dogs to my other cat!!

Good Luck!

You might want to get the Siamese checked by a vet if it's female - inter species behaviour like this can indicate a problem with the reprodcutive cycle of the cat.........

So whats that say about dogs that h*mp people legs? Seriously. I always thought dogs mounting in general was more of a sign of dominance than anything else, but I'd love to hear your take on it.

Yes - mostly is it a sign of dominance (as appears in this case) but just sometimes (and I think John Fisher reported one such case in Think Dogor was it diary of a Dotty Dog Doctor?) inter species mounting like this can be from hormonal imbalances which need vet treatment......

Well, when my rottie pup was a little younger the male (neutered) siamese would puur and stick his butt in the air while the rottie 'humped' over him!!!
The siamese adores Bear -(the rottie) and walks up to him and asks him to wash him, which he does, but then Bear starts getting a little rough with him and one of them has to be removed from the room.
Siamese are definately more dog like than other cats, he is very very vocal, demands attention and nicks all of the dog chews, (especially the raw hide rings) and takes them off to his bed!!
If your dog has already been brought up with cats, then i don't think that there should be much of a problem.

Yes I agree, siamese are more doggy than cat like at times, especially when the dogs smaller than the cat!

Youve got me worried now! should I be worrying about a frustrated dacsi or an oversexy (spayed) cat? Bearing in mind my Ridgeback (spayed) Bitch is wey out of reach for a mini dachsi (with a bad backmight I mention!)

Cheers,

Chelle....
