I have a pup who isgreat when we are around but the minute we go to bed he cries and then poo's and pee's everywhere. I leave the lights on dim but it doesn't change. He is 8 months now and wasn't always like that we got a cage for travelling in the car so we decided to leave him in it at night he has his toys, blanket and water and sleeps all night even when i am early shift and away at 4.30 he won't get up to go out until my husband gets up at 7.30 people say its a shame but surely he would object to going in and its been great with the fireworks he hid under his blanket all the time do you think i'm being cruel? He is out all day as somebody is nearly always in

If your pup is happy in the crate and sleeps well (especially if the door is open!) then it's not cruel at all.

Using a crate is only cruel when a dog is left in there for long lengths of time . Used sensibly they are not cruel

my crate has the door constantly open, and all the dogs try and fit in it has a cover over the top as i read somewhere that dogs feel safe in a den, they come and go when they want to but i have seen them all try and fit in and sleep in one big heap, i don't think they are cruel as long as you don't use them wrong.

We used a crate for our springers and they loved it, they would often all squeeze in together and it was funny trying to see which bit went with which dog, however now with 5 of them we have had to put them up there was just not enough room for 5 crates or even 2 big ones.

If you have Springers you may like to offer help here
