Hello.
Whoever told you that was talking Rubbish :D Staffordshire Bull Terriers are like EVERY other breed of dog they have to be introduced to dogs/cats with common sense.
You have adult cats I assume have they ever lived with dogs? if not what are they likewith dogs outside do they ignore them or run.
If they ignore them you have a good chance but if they run on sight you have a slightly harder job.
Staffs will chase a cat that runs as do most dogs :D but slowly get the cats used to the pup and vice versa. I would say with common sense you have a 95% chance of getting the dog and cats to get on.
I have had Staffs since 1978. And managed to introduce two kittens too two adult Staffords in 1982.
They all got on. Since then the cats are still alive and have intorduced a puppy to the cats they got on great. (sadly we lost Gyp the Stafford last year) Now have a 12 month old Stafford and she loves the cats but is too boisterous for them now they are getting on. Although they will occasionaly deign to play with her ;)
Basically I am saying with common sense regarding the introductions you will be fine but rememeber Staffs are boisterous. Keep an eye on the situation.
Regard leaving them alone DON'T. I wouldn't leave a Staff locked in the same room you don't know what can start a disagreement, during the day they are fine but not for 8+ hours locked in together No. My dog sleeps in the kitchen and the cats sleep upstairs. Keep them seperate when your not present and I would suggest at meal times for the animals too.
