We just bought a golden retriever puppy. She is 9 weeks old and has been with us now for a week and she seems to be very shyish twards us and we try to show her love and gentleness but she wont come to us when we call her and try to pick her up she runs. She acts as though she has been beat possibly but we were just wondering if this is a sign of a bad dog that may turn out to be mean? If you have any information on this behavior we would sure love to hear it. We have had at least 5 golden puppies and none of them have behaved the way she is behaving.

This is so sad - it's not what you expect from a new puppy is it? How was she she when you went to see her before you brought her home? If she was fine there, it might be that she has found all the move a bit much. Have you spoken to the breeder to see if s/he has any ideas? It may be that she was not very well socialised with people at the breeders so is afraid of strangers - but will hopefully come to recognise you all and come willingly etc.

Finally, have you had her to the vets for a check up? It could be that she's feeling unwell or is hurting somewhere for some reason as does not want to be handled.
