hey everyone,
me and my boyfriend have just bought a little west highland terrier called "jack" hes adorable we love him already!!! iv never had a puppy before but my boyfiend has.
the thing is,at weekends "jack" would need to be spending time witha older dog (a cross called sweep).
jack will have had his injections and weve been informed thats it will be ok for jack and sweep to spend time together.
the thing is...we need some advice on how to introduce the two to each other and that kind of thing.
sweep is a really sweet, kind dog nothing fazes him,he sleeps alday and eats, thats about it.
how should we make sure that jack and sweep get on??
we so cant wait to get our baby jack......
all replies would be so helpful x x

How old is your older dog? We got a puppy when our older dog was 8. To me that was too much of an age difference. The older dog wanted nothing to do with the puppy and the puppy wanted to play all the time. Then we got a third dog when our middle dog was 1 1/2 years old. That age difference was perfect. The two play together constantly. So I guess it depends on the age difference and the dog. Also, when you do anything let the older dog go first. I hope this helped a little.

Thanx Landy 3
The older dog is 13 years old, he is very friendly and doesn't really get angry or upset easily. The pup will be 9 weeks old, did your puppy and your older dog fall out then a lot ? or did the older dog just ignore the pup totally ?
Regards
Simon

The puppy kept running after her and trying to grab her tail. It was pretty funny but then we felt sorry for the older dog. She kept running away. I guess she was so set in her ways. SHe was alway kind of lazy. But after awhile I guess the puppy gave up tormenting her. BUt there were times that we did catch them playing. THe reason we bought the puppy was to try to make the older one young again. It helped a little but not that much. How are your two dogs doing. Are they friends yet (ha Ha)?
One major plus was that we had no crying from the puppy at the beginning. SHe stayed with the older dog at night and probably thought it was her mother. Also, sometimes it is easier to train the puppy if she follows the older dog.
Good luck! Keep us posted how they do.

Sounds kinda sweet, but I can see how the older dog might of got annoyed after a while. We haven't actually got our puppy yet, we collect him in 3 weeks when he'll be old enough to leave his mom. We cant wait, we're just trying to find out as much as possible about looking after him. So far we're found out about the injections he need, crate training, and now introducing him to our older dog. We just really cant wait to get him now, we visited him last weekend and he is soooo cute lol
