A man who lived on the top floor of a twenty story building had to go up anddown daily for work, and of course, for food and the other necessities. On most days he could only ride the elevator to the fifteenth story, and he would have to walk the rest of the way. When it rained, however, he could ride all the way up to the twentieth story. Why?

Cos he was too short to reach the lift button for his floor. But when he had his umbrella he could prod the button with that.

you're not allowed to play!!!! ;)
Okay then......
A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said, "twelve." The member replied, "six " and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "six." The member replied, "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said ,"ten" and the man replied, "five." But he was not let in.
What should have he said?

Three :D

because he is a short man so he had to use his umbrella to reach the button for the 20th floor :D

He was vertically challenged and could not reach a button higher than 15; when it rained he had an umbrella with him and used it to press the button for the 20th floor? :)

Imagine John, a party magician, is carrying three pieces of gold each piece weighing one kilogram. While taking a walk he comes to a bridge which has a sign posted saying the bridge could hold only a maximum of 80 kilograms. John weighs 78 kilograms and the gold weighs three kilograms. John reads the sign and still safely crossed the bridge with all the gold. How did he manage this?

I know ;)

Very good Jeangenie, I will have to find some more for you over the weekend.
What about the magician.
:) :)
A horse is tied to a five meter rope in front of an old saloon. Six meters behind the horse is a bale of hay. Without breaking his rope, the horse is able to eat the hay whenever he chooses. How is this possible?
There is a two foot long plastic boat in the bathtub, the boat is filled with metal nuts and bolts. The boat tips over, dumping the contents into the water. With the nuts and bolts in the water, will the water level in the bathtub rise, fall or stay the same as it was when the nuts and bolts were in the boat?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At first glance, the water level should stay the same, because volume displaced is the same (unless I've read it too quickly!).
Still thinking about the others....
:)

A five metre rope would give an overall distance of 10 metres. If the hay is only 6 metres away ....

That magician.... good at juggling, is he? ;)

Just logged on & read all of this thread. Magicians & horses tied up & lots of no's 1,2&3. I'm no good at these, so how did he get over the bridge? I did get the "S" one straight away, which I was quite proud of.

oh yeah & what are all the numbers all about??

He got over the bridge by juggling the gold, Snoopy!

Your right Jeangenie, he was a good juggler.
The other end of the rope was not attached to anything, so he could have gone 10 miles.
As for the boat, the water level will go down. A floating object displaces its weight and a submerged object displaces its volume. (so my hubby tells me) :D
More tomorrow :D :D :D

But if the boat was
filled as the question stated, then it would be lower in the water than when it was empty - the volume of the load would be below the water line, so displacing the same amount of water whether it is in the boat or on the bottom. So there would only be the weight of the boat itself, and that hasn't changed. So the water level should stay the same.
:)
Alternatively the horse could be tied up by its tail rather than its head and then it would still be able to reach even if the rope was tied at both ends

number riddle answer
The next row is
1113213211
Starting with the second line, every line describes the line before it. In writing, it is:
One One
Two Ones
One Two One One
etc.
etc.

I am not known.
Yet how you miss me,
When I have flown.
