Topic Dog Boards / General / where do you keep them all?
- By dylans [gb] Date 06.11.03 12:29 UTC
hello ive just read all the posts about how many dogs people own and was wondering where they kept them,do they live inside the house or in kennels and runs?
- By Whistleblower [gb] Date 06.11.03 12:32 UTC
I have Spaniels that are kept outside in kennels/runs they are working dogs
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.11.03 12:59 UTC
Mine are all in the house, because they are first and foremost pets.
:)

My girls are in the conservatory with a dog flap to and outside secured area. They are free to go as they want.

Our old girl, Purdey, is in the house all of the time (except when there is rugby on TV and everyone is screaming & yelling, and then she takes herself down to the bottom of the garden & hides :D), our other lab - Gypsy and the 4 Aussies take it in turns - one in the house with Purdey during the day & 4 in the kennels outside. They come in at night now, athough during the summer, Thor Loki & Gypsy stayed out at night as well.

This way, we feel that they all have "quality time" on an individual basis.

All mine (Border Terriers) are in the house, they are working dogs too! and show dogs and of course, pets.

I have one that lives outside permanantly, he wont come in for anything!!! And mum and 2 pups all live outside all day and come in in the evening and over night for now

Ours are all kennelled outside as I really could not imagine having 19, large and very fit, sleddogs running around the house. Yes, they are pets first and foremost but they are also all working dogs.
- By Timb [gb] Date 06.11.03 14:33 UTC
my two are kennelled outside when we are not there and generally overnight as they hog the duvet if allowed to sleep in :)
- By Helen [gb] Date 06.11.03 14:45 UTC
I've got 6 and they all live inside. They are all working dogs and do have a kennel but they very rarely go in it.

5, all live indoors pet first then showing/working dog.
- By Carla Date 06.11.03 14:49 UTC
My two live inside. Willis sleeps on a quilt by the front door (on guard duty) and Phoebe sleeps in the study, in a big plastic bed with a quilt in. Aaaah bless.
- By copper_girl [gb] Date 07.11.03 19:01 UTC
Awww Dawn, my boy is in the house too, he doesn't work (I do, so maybe so should he!), he used to be a show dog (pre me) but now he's just my boy!! My pets are just my companions and I just let them run round the house. It works for us!

I'd be interested to know how he came to have such a bad temperament if he was previously a show dog?

Always interested to know which lines are throwing bad temperaments

My five are in the house all day, but sleep in a double 10ft x 5ft kennel at night two in one and 3 in the other. They have a choice of their baskets or benches across the back of each kennel, which they like best in summer.
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 06.11.03 15:27 UTC
I only have two, not 19. (I can't imagine having 19!) One inside at night, one outside at night, both out during day! Both working.
- By miloos [gb] Date 06.11.03 15:30 UTC
my lot are all in the house, usually on the sofa, but i wouldn't have it any other way, in spite of spending a mint this year having the garden flagged and a luxury kennel built for them. they wont go in it in winter.I know they're spoilt but they're my babies:)
- By mali fan [gb] Date 06.11.03 15:54 UTC
5 dogs, all living inside!:)

Sarah.
- By rachaelparker [gb] Date 06.11.03 16:05 UTC
Only one so I guess it doesnt count but she lives inside and rules the roost to a ridiculous degree.

Wouldnt have it any other way :D
- By EMMA DANBURY [gb] Date 06.11.03 16:31 UTC
I think the question should be where do all the dogs keep their humans? Im aloud a small amount of bed and have to share at least 60% of all foods. Occasionaly I can sit on the sofa instead of hovering between the kitchen and his bowl. Ocassionally as a special treat Im given permission to go shopping on the provision that I bring him something back
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.11.03 16:38 UTC
Ah, a different question entirely! ;)

Upstairs is a dog-free zone. The dogs have free run of downstairs - the girls are reluctantly allowed on the furniture but the boys aren't (ha ha!), but they do have a raised bed under the front window so they can look out
- By Sandie [gb] Date 06.11.03 17:12 UTC
My 5 live in the conservatory, they have free run of the garden and back end of the house but they are banned from the lounge and upstairs.
- By gundogsrbest [gb] Date 06.11.03 17:43 UTC
my three live indoors but have free run of the garden and downstairs during the day, they also have a kennel which they go in when we are out, and jack sleeps in a crate at night
- By kath_barr [gb] Date 06.11.03 17:40 UTC
I've only got one dog but upstairs is dog-free here too, although she's allowed to sleep on the bottom step as she likes it there. During the day we keep her in a cardboard box :D :D

No seriously, her bed is a shallow box with her duvet in as that's the only thing that fits perfectly in the space next to the Rayburn and she loves it there. Warm and cosy and near the cooking smells!

Mine are all house dogs, but they like to be outside but they like the door kept open so as to keep contact and freeze our bits off.
- By twiggy B [gb] Date 06.11.03 19:10 UTC
mine are all in the house with their own bedroom. Most of days are spent outside and then they all come in at night.
couldn't keep them out in this weather!
- By dizzy [gb] Date 06.11.03 19:38 UTC
two shar-pei are house dogs, with free run to the downstairs [on the floor] and the garden, i have a block of kennels that they use for chewing bones etc in--the springers [2] live outside all the time, and only ever cross the door if they need a bath, :D
- By kazz Date 06.11.03 19:39 UTC
Again only one so I don't suppose that counts. But she's inside and has complete run during the day of downstairs; kitchen/dinning room, living room, front room, conservatory, porch. But sleeps in the kitchen. Not allowed upstairs but has a tendency to follow you upstairs if you go ;)

The pups have been basically housetrained since allowed outsdide at 4 weeks, as long as door is open, so we are freezing in order that they can go in and out as they like. Only time we got a puddle on kitchen floor was whenn it tipped down with rain, the first rain they had ever experienced.

When I get too cold I shut the klitchen to living room door!! The adult dogs just jump the baby gate in both directions, but mostly stay with me in living room :D
- By Fillis Date 06.11.03 20:37 UTC
My three live inside, although they have a lovely outdoor run which cost a fortune and a state of the art outbuilding with bath, grooming table etc. Sometimes they let each of us (hubby and I)have a six inch strip down each side of the bed. Dogs are the only 100% sure method of contraception :D

9yr Bonnie always in the house & sleeps at side of bed, used to sleep in middle of us but now she doesn`t see so doesn`t feel secure getting off & on bed. 9yr toffee lives in house 24hrs, hogs the fire then sneaks on settee after we gone to bed. Sweep 6&half yrs in house 24hrs sleeps other side of bed. Rex 4/5yrs sleeps in house at night on 2 big vet beds in living room doesn`t like bed, rest of times he`s in & out of house/garden/kennels. Other 5 dogs ages 6&half down to 2&half yrs live in house during day then go into kennels to be fed then back in house then back in kennels when we go to bed. they have at different times stayed in during the night but don`t seem to settle as well & get restless & wake us up! Cat doesn`t really know he`s supposed to be nocturnal & sleeps at foot of bed all night!!!! :)

Mine all live indoors. They are firstly pets but I do show and work them also.
- By Gill W [gb] Date 07.11.03 18:26 UTC
I've got 3(but working towards 19:D) and they all live indoors. At night, 2 are on the bed with me and the youngest is in a crate at the side of the bed :)
- By Gee [gb] Date 07.11.03 18:44 UTC
I have 3. They sleep in the utility room at night - my lab has her own comfy basket with duvet and the 2 Bichons have their own cosy crates. They have free range of the kitchen and living areas at the back of our house. Upstairs is dog free except for tonight when my sick lab girl will sleep in our room.
- By Snoop Date 07.11.03 19:31 UTC
I have only got one and he lives indoors. He's not allowed upstairs but has free run downstairs unless we go out or at night when he has the hall and study (plastic bed with quilt) Can't imagine having 19!!
