Walking in the park last night I met a couple in their early twenties who complimented me on shadow, and went on to say that they had two GSD's at home, a long haired dog of 4 with bad hips and an 11 month old short haired bitch that they got from a breeder 4 weeks ago, they said they put both dogs in the garden for 6 hours in the hope they mate so she can have puppies off them.
I was horrified, a dog with HD and an 11 month old bitch!!!!!!!!! I stated that HD is hereditry and the bitch is too young, but it went completely over their head so I bit my lip and walked off in disgust.
Talk about dimwits, no wonder there is so many bad dogs out there, I only hope the bitch is infertile.
HI Shadow
Amazing isn't it!
If you meet them again, you could perhpas suggest that the new owners could "sue" breeders of pups with bad hips, bred knowingly. Does that sound awful? It's just that it might put them off and save the poor pups, you never know!!!

Some people are just born stupid, we have an aquaintance who has two large GSD's, one from rescue with a list of health problems as long as a very long arm! she is breeding them because she wants a pup for herself, to keep with her others in her tiny house, with a tiny garden, for her own protection!! If the dogs are anything like their owner they are probably extremely unpleasant.

Hello!
I sold a puppy a couple of years ago who was mis-marked, he had one white ear (Blenheim Cavalier) he was sold with a restricted registration and the new owners were advised to have him neutered. About six months ago a friend of these people came to look at a dog puppy I had available and they told me that this other boy was doing just fine, that he had turned into a very lovely looking dog and that his owners felt that he needed to "get his leg over",:( they also told me that they were thinking of mating him to their un-registered Ruby bitch!! They then told me that they were after another bitch (from me!!) to mate him to so that they could "make a bit of money"

out of their pet!!
I told them that they would never get a puppy from me, I also pointed out that they could not register any puppies fathered by this boy, and certainly not a registered litter out of an unregistered bitch, "Oh, we'll just get a registration certificate for her from the Post Office" I was told, I burst out laughing at that one!!:D I then asked them, very politely to leave!! Once they had gone I rang all the breed clubs I know of and warned them of this budding "puppy farmer"

but there is not much more that I can do! Makes yoou wonder about the mentality of some of the folks out there doesn't it?

In defence of those with good intentions, some people just don't realize there is such a thing as a breed standard. I have learned so much from logging on here. Some people really do think they can just put two dogs together of the same breed and come out with a lovely litter of pups. I realise now that it really isn't that simple, but before I got interested in pure breed dogs I thought otherwise. As breeders you all have a duty to educate your new puppy owners about the thought process you went though when producing your bitches litter, how you chose the sire etc... It's at that point you have your opportunity to prevent misconceptions as to the seriousness of a sound bloodline. Catherine, I'm sure you took the time to do this, but there are some that just don't "get it" no matter what you say to them. I'm sorry these people have let you down like this. :(

Why oh why oh why do people think breeding is so easy :confused. I had a lovely dog as a pet for 10 years. I am currently in the process of acquiring a new puppy, of a different breed. I am trying my utmost to ensure i get a dog which is right for us, but there is no way ON THIS EARTH that I would want to breed my dog -the time, expense, worry, dedication is enough with one 8 week old puppy, it must increase 110% with a whole litter to look after! I honestly can't understand why they want to do it!!! I am quite happy to leave the breeding to the real experts and I take off my hat to them. Hearing stories like this must really infuriate serious breeders.

There are compensations! It may be (and is!) be expensive, worrying, time consuming and on occasions heart breaking but when one of my 4 1/2 week old puppies wanders out of the puppy pen and comes to say hello, or starts to play with one of my adults it is all worth while. It is lovely to watch my young hooligans Django and Truffle play soooo gently with the pups, and when one of the pups falls asleep cuddled up against you..................... Its impossible to describe how beautiful it is.
I hope you find your puppy.
