Topic Dog Boards / Health / First Season - what age?
- By ClaireM [gb] Date 05.11.03 11:46 UTC
Hi

Molly is now almost six months and I was just wondering at what stage I should start looking out for her first season?

She's been off her food yesterday and seemed a bit mopey and I wondered if this could be the cause?

Could be, don't remember your breed but seasons can be any where between 5 months and 18, and I bet there are a good few outside that.

Sorry for not saying - she's a Westie.

She could just be being fussy as it wouldn't be the first time she's been off her food, but she's never been mopey before. I may also be over- reacting, she may just be tired.

Has she been upset by fireworks? It could be her first season some bitches do get upset with the first, but it is rare after although PMT is not. If you are really worried about her take her for a check up, have you inspected her female parts to see if they are looking more grown up, if they still look as they always have, and she still seems of colour then I would get the vet to take a look at her.

Hi Jackie

Took Molly to the vet last night actually, as she hadn't eaten all day and only sparingly the day before. She's always been a bit fussy so I thought she might just be having one of her turns and went to the supermarket to get her some Baker puppy (she's always been a partial but I don't particularly like it). She tucked in when I got home and I was quite pleased, but within half an hour she'd brought it back up again.

Took her up to the vets and it looks like she's eaten something she shouldn't out of the garden again. Gave her a jab and a course of tabs and she's doing better already. She's on very plain chicken at the mo.

Thanks for your help
