Hi chaps,
I've been using a 'fairly cheap but generally good' double dog cage in my car, a V reg Volvo V70 estate and have decided that I'm going to have to 'bite the bullet' and replace it soon as Kester, my young lab will soon outgrow it. I toyed with the idea of getting a tailgate, guard and divider but have decide to stick with a cage, but cannot decide which one to buy. I liked the idea of the Lintran boxes, although I'm not so sure if they would be as strong as a metal/wire one if I had a crash (ever the pessimist!). I've looked at most of the ones out there in internet land, but really wanted one which is a better use of space than just a square box divided in half-mine seems to waste a lot of space on either side of my crate. Any ideas.?
I'd really like to hear from other V70 owners that have managed to utilise the most space in the boot, and Lintran box users about how strong they are.
And any other ideas that anyone can make.
Cheers chaps-thanks in advance
Ali :0 :)
we have a V70 as one of our covert vechiles (cant spell tonight) all it has is a dog guard and tail gate as it is not used that often, and when it is only one dog at a time is put in it, your best bet is probably to get in touch with barjo and they can make the crate or whatever you choose to fit the boot of your car

Barnesbrook make brilliant made to measure cages at much lower prices than some others and are "silent"; they are designed and made by an ex aircraft engineer. I have seen one or two and they are very nice; he even adds nice touches like pegs for leads and "round" the bottom edge off for jumping in and out etc.
Hello again- My husband has just told me that he doesn't want to get another crate, but would prefer a guard/tailgate duo (I'm always the last to know!!)Any ideas?

The only thing I would say is if you've got a chewer................
Be warned the headlining and any other chewable interior will be chewed..
As I can vouch, my Boxer re-designed my escort estates headlining for me :(
Luckily for me I didn't have a brand new car :D
However I also have another dog which is car protective and she goes mental
at the windows. I always was amazed that she didn't pop the windows out with just the tailgate and guard.
So I've always preferred cages safer for the dogs and the car.
However if you really want to go the tailgate and guard route then Barjo/MMG etc do these.

Hi, I've recently been looking into this for my new car. Dog guard & tailguard are good, but as already said dogs can still chew etc. Also if you need the back of your car for everyday things (shopping bags, pushchair) it's not easy to struggle through the tailgate & they are fixed quite firmly & not that easy to take out. Personally I prefer cages, you can take them in & out if you need to, they are easier to take out & clean if a dog is sick in there & they can be taken out easily if you want the space for shopping bags etc. I think cages are far better than tailgate & guard, I also think that Guardsman are outstanding quality & they are much stronger than any other cage that I have seen. :)
I can also recommend Barnsbrook. He makes them specially for the vehicles (as so other manufactures) is much cheaper and faster and it does not rattle!! You can put it up and dismantle in situ and I also wanted to take as much room in the back as possible but find the space between the side of the cage and car very useful for the junk I carry around with me (wellies, spare leads, dog food, waterproofs, collapsible chairs, towels etc etc).

Guardsman are excellent & very strong. One snag - you also have to be extremely strong if you are likely to want to use the car for something else because they are incredibly heavy! I use a Barjo tailgate & dog guard because it gives maximum space for large dog, but it wouldn't give any protection in a crash, also the guard is difficult to fit if you don't want to drill holes in your car. (If I had a V70, I wouldn't want to)!
I can second this I have a guardsman and there's no way I could take the cage out by myself
(feeble woman moment :D )
I normally wait and get the 'other half and his bruvver to shift it if I want to hoover the car out
etc.

can you tell me where I can contact this person as I'm looking for a crate for hatchback (focus sport) I know it's not a practical car for carrying my dog around but I got the car before the puppy! That is Branesbrook I've tried doing a search but have had no luck.
