What shampoo does everyone use???????
Someone advised me to use human shampoo, which she has used on all her showdogs for the past 30 years. Does anyone else use human shampoo?????????
I have two different coated dogs, A Rottie Cross, and a Am Cocker. By the looks of the cockers feet after our walk today, I think he will need ALOT of baths!!!!!!!! (he is not in show coat, but has a puppy coat trim)

For a puppy I always use baby shampoo, it is mild and won't sting their eyes. I also use it if I have to bath certain parts frequently because of the weather.

I have used human shampoo on an adult but usually use a dog one for an all over bath before a show. I use 'Plush Puppy' but it is not readily available from pet shops.

I use Quistel, www.quistel.co.uk or Groomers Evening Primrose Oil shampoo - available from Pets at Home.

Hi Lea, my American Cockers are bathed up to twice a week using people shampoo. I buy the Asda brand 58p. I always dilute by pouring about 100ml into a plastic jug and topping up with a litre of warm water. Rinse really well though and use a creme rinse too.
Look out Peter she's coming after you!!!!!!

i use laserlites...good for long coated dogs(I have an afghan). I recommend the herbal shampoo for regular use, the clarifying for mucky days. I use the lanolin conditioner, and on show days mix it with a bit of silk http://www.laserlites.com.au the site details the products... email Chris Bagshaw at laserlites4u@aol.com and she will send a price list. At first glance seems expensive, but you dilute it 10:1 :)

Hi Lea [$ everyone. Depends on the coat type and texture - we use a whole load of different ones. One range which is a good stand bye are the Wahl shampoos (particularly the ones for White Coats and the Black one) unfortunately ther is a dirtribution problem into the UK at the moment. (they do a one call hairy beast which might be good if Peter gets too long ])) Also use a viariety pf people shampoo including some professional ahirdressers ranges. For everyday washing and on pet trims I find that the supermarkt own brands like the ones Dawn suggests are very good.
bye

I use Crisp Coat on Khan.I got it when we used to show him.I washed his coat and it started going soft.I found it very good for him he is a Chow.
On Ling also a chow I use a shampoo called Perfect Coat medicated.
I remember some 30 years back my friends mother had a poodle parlour she used to swear by Lux soap flakes.

I've been considering changing Lewy's (cavalier) shampoo to one for white dogs, to make his white bits sparkle, but will it effect his red patches at all?

Erin

I use a white shampoo on my dog that is predominately black and it is fine, doesn't alter the black but brings the white up lovely.

Help! What i thought was going to be a simple job of looking on the Hub international site and ordering some whitening shampoo isn't as easy as i thought! There's so many to choose from! Anyone got any recommendations?

Ahh, shampoos, a favorite topic of mine. Don't let the marketing fool you! Currently, all shampoos on the high street shelf, whether marketed at dogs or humans, contain the same ingredients - the principal ones of which have been associated for some time now with safety concerns. The ingredients I'm referring to are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) (as foaming/lathering agents), and the parabens (antimicrobials). Indeed, a certain Nicky Clarke shampoo actually contains formaldehyde. The safest thing to use on any creature imo is a baby shampoo - which, unfortunately, still contain at least one of these ingredients.

I used a shampoo called eucalyptus with gingilly oil when a few of them had the itchies this summer & it was lovely. No chemicals all pure products from the this link http://www.wykken.co.uk/
I`m lucky tho as most of the time the mud just falls off when they dry with a good brush & the most I need to is give a quick rinse with the hose if they get to0 muddy then some good rubbing with a towel :)

I have to add that the Quistel shampoo is also for itchy dogs etc. if you take a look at the Qistel testimonials on their site you'll see a Westie that was in a very bad way....

on my 3 dogs i have always used normal shampoo mixed with baby shampoo and then diluted, ive found this to be best as the baby shampoo is gentler to their skin but because mine all get so grubby the normal shampoo gets the dirt out better.
- By ice_queen Date 06.11.03 17:15 UTC
setters and jet black aussie gets white shampoo, black aussie with a reddy coluor undercoat has black shampoo and red aussie has a brown shampoo.

tho i have been recormend panten for dogs because of what it does to hair, kinda coats it in a plastic substance giving it ompf and shine! since then i havnt used panten....

Barbra woodhouse used to swear by fairy liquid even for showing.Personally I use a black shampoo on my red dog as it darkens her coat,no,it appears to make it darker!

I use Tesco's Teatree shampoo and conditioner for normal baths through the summer - it helps keep fleas and ticks away and is gentle on her skin, which can be a little dry sometimes :)
- By Sooz [gb] Date 07.11.03 10:25 UTC
how often can you bath your dog?
- By Wishfairy [gb] Date 07.11.03 10:36 UTC
I was told (by the vet) not to bath her more than once a month - unless she is particularly dirty!

She has a tendancy to roll in fox poo so we do the patch between her shoulders more often (sometimes weekly) and she doesn't have a bad reaction in the area at all (IYKWIM)

I also give her a cod liver oil capsule every other day in with her feed and this seems to keep her nice and shiney - although she has a lab coat so it's easy to care for.
- By Sooz [gb] Date 07.11.03 10:45 UTC
yeah the fox poo thing, DISGUSTING :(, i'm gonna give my monster a bath tonight, i might hoover him down with the Dyson first though.... (:D)

Emptying a tin of tomato juice or tomatoes neutralises the funky fox fug aroma prior to bathing.:)
- By Wishfairy [gb] Date 07.11.03 14:36 UTC
My son told me that ketchup did the same job - apparently he saw it on tv
