Hi...My bitch had 11 healthy pups on thursday but now im noticing that when i pet them i feel bumps on their backs. At 1st i though it was dried up blood or whatever but i checked it out and they look like scabs...does anyone know what this could be?? Thanks
has mum been picking them up and putting them in there mouth??
is there any sign of fleas??
if you are worried take mum and pups along to the vet for a check.
sorry but don't know what else it could be ,

no fleas ive been looking. Plus i get my property sprayed for fleas and she doesnt even really go out. Just to use the bathroom. She hasnt been picking them up either. If i could remember correctly they were there when they were born. I wish i could find a vet i trust around here cause i would bring them.
hi angela, if there is no sign of fleas and mum has not been picking them up.

Why doesn't she go out? What do you do for exercise?

Why don't you trust vets?? They are trained and experienced and will know what is wrong with the pups better than anyone else.
There is a condition called juvenile pyoderma that has the symptoms you described, take the puppies to a vets for a check up.
Why doesn't your bitch go out?

Ever since shes had the pups she wont leave them for 2 seconds. Not even to eat i have to put her food and water in her box. When i take her out to go to the bathroom she cries like someones hurting her and half the time wont even go to the bathroom. She doesnt want to be away from her pups which i could understand. And the reason i dont trust vets is because everytime i bring my animals to the vet for something i always wind up getting screwed out of money. 2 months ago i brought a pup to the vet cause she was in a llittle fight with another pup. Nothing bad i just wanted to get her check out cause her eye was hurt. They told me i have 2 options either i can put her to sleep (which was the 1st option) or pay over $1000 cause she needed an IV and to be in the vet for a week..i told them they were crazy. She didnt even have a scratch on her...her eye was a little watery. Thats it!! I brough her home, cleaned out her eye and she was good to go. Then 2 weeks ago i brought my pregnant bitch to the vet just to get her checked out and see how her pregnancy was going and he said shes not pregnant. I woudnt expect anything from her. Mind you this was another vet from the last one. So you tell me if im crazy that i dont trust vets.

Was this another litter?
That's a lot of puppies. Are you a breeder or was it just an accident? Either way you must surley be able to find a vet you cn trust in yur area? Maybe just ask around other pet owners to find a recommended one?

Yes it was a different litter. I am a breeder and have never saw this before. 2 years ago my vet that i went to for 12 years moved out of state. He was a really nice truthful guy! Not like the other vets around here. They are only in it for the money. Ive been to 3 vets over here and they are no help what so ever. Last summer one of my males had a blister looking thing on the side of him. I brought him to 2 vets and they both said it was a tumor and most likely cancer by the way it looks. They wanted to do a biopsy for $300 and then to remove the blister which was about the size of a quater was $1200. Well i took him home and started putting triple antiboitic ointment on it just to see what would happen. I was told to call the vet in a week to make the appt. By the 4th day after i was at the vet the blister was totally gone. I mean they cant always be right but they havent givin me a reason yet to trust them. My last option is to go to a vet about 2 hours away from me. It looks like its getting better but just to be safe i will bring them. Thanks everyone

so how are the pups now? are they still lumpy? :)
By angel922
Date 10.11.03 21:54 UTC
yep still lumpy. They are scabs but not like a rash or bleeding type scabs. They are just dried scabs. A few of them dont even have them. They are all active and acting great. The mother doesnt have any and i keep everything very very clean. So i dont understand. I called the vet and they gave me an appt for saturday.

It doesn't sound like anything too worrying - although when they are your 'babies' it's hard not to worry!
Good luck with the vet.
