Hi all
My Siberian Husky, Bullet, has dilated cardiomyopathy and has had 3 heart failures in the past year. I need to find a source for a drug called Pimobendan or Vetmedin (same thing). Can anyone help me? It's available in the UK and australia, maybe Germany...
My vet is ready to send off a perscription and get permissions from the FDA to import the drug for Bullet.
Thanks for any info!

Hi Laurie
Sorry to hear about bullet. We have just lost a boxer (8/11/03) to heart failure, we took him to a heart specialist who gave us a prescription of Vetmedin, unfortunately he died in the car on the way home so we never got to try it. If you contact me I will let you know the specialists name and address and hopefully he will be able to tell you the source.
Regards

Hi Sue
I'm so sorry to hear about your boxer. I know Bullet could go anytime - the cardiologist very pointedly said so. Twice, in fact. I thought - ok, ok I know!! Even so, I don't think we're ever really prepared.
I think I have finally found a pharmacist in the UK who will work with us! My vet is writing a "request to import" to a woman at the FDA (whose name I got from another vet - she was doing clinical trials with vetmedin a year ago). I can't even guess how many hours I spent on this last week!
In case this doesn't go thru, how do I contact you for the name/address?
Thanks so much for your response, Sue

Hi Laurie
Best of luck with Bullet - but if you can't get Vetmedin the place we got it from is the Barton Veterinary Hospital in Canterbury, Kent (telephone 01227 765522).
Best regards

Hi Laurie,
I can strongly recommend Vetmedin - our little man Leo, a Shih Tzu was on it for about 3 yrs ( from age 9 to 12 ) and it literally gave him a whole new lease of life. In fact the vet we use was totally stunned that he lived so long. It is not a cure but it is an excellent management drug. Also it may need to be given in tandem with other drugs depending on Bullets actual condition.
The UK website is http://www.vetmedin.co.uk/
Hope this helps and if you need anything further please click on bingstroller above for email
Good Luck
Billy

HI
My Dobe Sophie died last year of DCM and she was on Vetmedin (among other things)
The vet didn't have to send away for permission and they kept it in stock.
I hope your boy is OK. It certainly gave Sophie more time (she was 11)
