Topic Dog Boards / General / what do i ask?

I know this may sound silly and people on this forum may be getting fed up with me going on about getting a Blue Roan Cocker on November 23rd! But please bear with me I've never had a puppy before and I am so excited. I'm going to view the pups this weekend on Sunday. What are the general questions I should be asking, I've read my books 'The perfect puppy' and 'Before you get a puppy'. Is it ok to take a blanket for the dog so that I can bring the scent of his family home? (is this a good idea?) Can I take a picture with a digital camera (or don't breeders like this?) I honestly haven't got a clue. Sorry

I dont think it is silly and I dont think most people here ever get fed up of folks getting excited over new puppies :D Take a camera but ask before you take any pictures.

You could ask about the what food they are eating / what the breeder recommends by way of sleeping arrangements / do they recommend any particular insurance etc etc :)

You will know what questions to ask when you get there , don't worry :)

Go with the flow, if you have done all of this reading beforehand you are obviously very commited to your new responsibility, and therefore you will find your natural curiosity will take over and loads of questions will follow ;)
Have you seen both parents? Have you enquired about eye tests etc.... something i know i was advised to ask from numerous people when i got my cocker.
Roll on the 23rd :D

We were just the same wrote all these very sensible questions down but as soon as we saw the puppies they were all forgotten as we oohed and ahhed over the puppies but the breeder will be used to this, ours gave us a sheet of frequently asked questions and she had loads of questions for us as well. The blanket is a really good idea when we got ours home we put it into his crate with the door open and once he'd had a sniff around and a pee+poo he got straight in and slept right through the night.

Cheers
Steve
