I am going to enter my pup in some breed shows never having done it before as my two are rescues. I can't get to ringcraft as work evenings. So wondered if anyone had any advice, they're freestanding right? So I have been teaching her stand and she often stands with a foot out of place or two, so if she did this in the ring would I move her foot or completely move her until she gets into a square stand? If she does have a foot out of place and I have to move her, does this count against her? Also I am not quite sure about rules, am I right in saying if I entered her in Puppy and she won it and she was in junior as well and came 5th for example, this means that she couldn't go for best pup in show? What do people normally enter for their pups first show? I was thinking sheltie puppy and any variety minor puppy bitch? As any variety doesn't count for going through to best puppy or something? Also if I were in a class and another I had entered was starting at the same time what would I do? It's all very confusing. I know triangles, Ts etc. As have done handling with my x-breed and we were reserve best handler at camp 2001 - first time I had done it and the judge couldnt' believe it was :-) So I kind of know what I am doing but with a different breed I'm not quite so sure as I can handle my x-breed whatever way being a x-breed.

Her 3rd show I was thinking about doing Manchester. Though being a champ I don't know if it will be a good idea? Sheltie minor puppy bitch, Pro-Plan Pup Of The Year. They also have special beginner stakes and YKC stakes but didn't know if that would be too much?

ok yes shelties are free standing, if her legs are out of place then it is up to you how you move them, you can either pick it up and put it down in the right place or risk putting all four legs wrong by moving her again and again. moving a leg will not count against you.

As for the rules if you win puppy and get beaten in junior BY ONLY JUNIORS then you still get Best puppy in breed so you can go into BEst puppy in show. BUT if you win BPIB and then lose in AV minor puppy u will NOT be able to go into BPIS.

At a pups first show i will normally only enter one class (breed) maybe once then are 9 mths i might enter them in two classes.

If two classes you enterd were going at the same time then talk to the stewards. They will hopefully then ask the judge if it is ok for you to leave the ring and go into the other class. what ever you do dont panic if this happens. You will just have to run between rings but let the stewards know so they no where you are.

Also at manchester i wouldnt recormend you doing all those classes, sheltie minor puppy bitch will be enouch. proplan pup of the year will be against older puppies of different breeds and special beg. stakes and YKC stakes will be up against older dogs and in the YKC you will be up against champion dogs in thier prime so i would not recormend that.

Saying all the above it is your chocie what you enter your puppy into and if you wish to enter in all those classes then it is your chocie but please think about your pup and champshows can get very stressful for them!:)

Yes it is, only ever done obedience, htm and agility shows. As both my two are rescues, we go to companion shows a lot and I showed my collie in a pastoral class once at one and she won?!?! But she's bandy legged and mostly white so don't normally bother, and sometimes they have a proper x-breed class and you are expected to show properly. I have been to breed shows though and looked around as the YKC Agility qualifier is held at Birmingham champ, and went to WKC 2002 as there was a YKC event. So not completely new, but it will be a new experience :-) I am looking forward to it.

oh well done with your collie! my aussies never seem to do much at companion shows because people think they are BCs without their tail!!!

You proberly will enjoy it! tho showing is like a bug that wont go away!!!!!
