Okay well not exactly everywhere but how on earth does everyone manage when their bitches are in season. We have a hosue that is very impractical for this as it is almost entirely open plan so we cant shut her in anywhere, we try and block the stairs but as we're still in "development" stages we dont have a bannister yet and so cant use a dog gate and anything we put up she just bulldozes through. We've got laminate downstairs but carpet upstairs and its proving to be a bit of a problem.
How long does the bleeding stage usually last???? she was in season for about a week before the bleeding started so how much longer have I got left to go, or does it really vary between bitches??

It does vary by bitch - perhaps 7-10 days for noticeable bleeding, on average. Some bitches keep themselves so clean the bleeding is hardly noticeable at all, but I guess this is not the case for your bitch.
One of the best household gadget investments I ever made was a mini carpet shampooer. I got mine from QVC, but I'm sure they are readily available. Of course, the earlier you notice the better, but you can easily shampoo spots our of carpets or furniture with it.

Most bitches actually keep themselves very clean - but some don't :( For those I've found the best thing is a pair of pants - cheap ones from the market in a suitable size - hole cut for the tail as necessary, can be washed easily/quickly and should be changed frequently......)

Use half a sanitary towel in the pants if she is a heavy bleeder - but change them frequently.

If this is a first season she may not realise whe is messy for a few days
I have sometimes found first timesr infuriatingly obtuse, and after that they keep themselves so clean I have to check regularly with tidssues to pinp[oint seasons for breedi8ng, otherwise I would miss the onset altogether.

They do get better when they have a few seasons but we are lucky as all my girls clean each other up !
Try a pair of pants on her with a hole for her tail ! Looks very fetching ! :)

i keep my sons old underpants for season time, the fly hole is in just the right place for the tail if you put them on back to front,
this season amber and jade will be sporting scooby doo pants and power rangers, in a range of colours to suit any occasion :D :D

That is one brilliant idea I am going to file for future reference. Just out of interest do you have any problems persuading them to keep them on?
I'm getting a bitch in a few weeks, always kept dogs up till now and I've got to admit this was not an aspect I am particularily looking forward to.

my two generally forget they have them on after five minutes of looking at me like ive gone mad, and as they generally come into season around the same time, they both wear the pants and i think they think at least she looks as stupid as i do!! :)
hi, i put pants on my bitch when she is in season, they are easy to wash out, and the dog does get used to them after about 5 minutes.
