hi and good morning all, just had a phone call from my mother very stressed and peed of,she has a 4 yr old lab bitch who has started messing in the house at night,my mother got up this morning to find wee and poo on her kitchen floor once again anyone with any ideas on why she would start this again,my mum lets her out last thing at night between 12am/1am and then when she wakes 7 ish,she also has full run of garden during the day she can come and go out when she pleases, any advice for my mother would be great .

Has the dog had a change of diet or is there a stressful situation in the home at the moment? Is she due in season? I think if the answer to all the above is no , I would take the dog to the Vets to have her checked over.
Melody :)

Could it be fireworks going off in early hours?

Yes either change of diet or she is stressed.(Most likely cause is fireworks)
If the poo is at all runny then she may have eaten something that is taking a while to come out.
If it continues then a visit to the vet maybe in order.

firstly dog has been spayed, and the poo isnt at all runny,i personally think it might be fireworks,i will keep you up dated as i know more informtion, many thanks.

Urinary incontinence does sometimes occru in spayed bitches, especially if they are at all overweight.
she isnt over weight, she eats one meal per day which she has each morning, can worms cause a problem like this??

Well they would upset her tummy, good idea to keep her up to date, though the worming might make her temporarily loose.
I think more and more it is the fireworks. she doesn't go and empty herself once it is dark.
How about switching her feeding to the evening so that she is likely to need to do a number two earlier in the day.
Won't help with holding her bladder though.
hi thumper, we have the same problem with our yorkie bitch aged 4 , and it is fireworks that is causing the problem, we use these tablets you can get them from the pet shop or buy them direct from the supplier, all they do is keep the dog calm, it takes about a week for them to get properly into there system but they are very good and do work.
they are called SERENE-UM , they cost about £5.00 a packet for 30 tablets.or try there website it is www.markandchappell.com you can also get free vetinary advice from the online vet, he is very good as i have emailed him a few times.
give them a try you have nothing to loose.
they are not sedatives they are all natural so there will be no side effects.
i hope this info is helpfull and if there is anyone one else out there who is having problems with fireworks give these a try or ask the vet for free advice on the website above.
