This will be my first winter with regular dog walking in all weathers !!
i wondered what you more experienced owners prefer to wear on your feet!!!
i was about to buy new wellies but then I thought they dont support your feet much!
then I thought nice leather walking boots, but if they get wet through they could take days to dry out?!
any advice please???????
Thanks
Jude
i have some wellie type ankle boots that are a bit more shaped and supportive than normal wellies. cost about £20 they have velcro ankle straps and a padded ankle section, can be bought from anywhere that horse stuff is sold. If not, think about hiking boots...although a good waterproof pair will be pricey.:)

I found some waterproof hiking boots for £25 - only had them a few weeks though so I hope they'll last!
:)
Rubber boots are very uncomfortable to walk long distances in and make your feet wet with perspiration.
I wear leather walking boots which are claimed to be waterproof, although from experience this should be water-resistant. I improve the water-proofing ability by applying clear dubbin to the boots during wet weather, this ensure that the water beads-up and runs off the boots instead of soaking the leather.
I have had several pairs of the fashionable Reebok or Nike type composite walking boots but have found that they are not really up to the job and the uppers fail after a few months, leather is definitely the best.

My Brasher walking boots have kept my feet warm, dry and comfy for 6 years, buying a new pair this year as I have knackered them doing agility, they are pretty lightweight for a walking boot too!
I have bought proper agility shoes and they are not nearly so comfy!

I wear Hawskhead boots - they were on offer for £20 when I got them , but are now £36 on their website - watch out for offers in the Sunday papers, that's where I got them first. Can't get the link thing to work, but the website address is www.hawkshead.com

The soles of my Hawkshead boots split before I'd had them 4 months. :( Comfy boots, but not made to last. Like most things, you get what you pay for.

In the main we use hiking boots, well treated with dubin and polishes. We also have wellies for those much wetter, puddle hopping days! It's like being a kid all over again, with a 'dog walk' anyone is allowed to go in the puddles and splash about,it relieves any tension:) if I wear my wellies I always buy a bigger size and wear with thick socks for a snug, warm fit. When it's mainly wood type walks though, the hiking boots (leather) win out because they give so much more ankle support on uneven ground,I have had too many twisted ankles in the past to risk that again!ouch. They take a bit of wearing in but then all new shoes do.
Hope my ramblings are of some help.
Hard to beat a good pair of cats, sandra.

Well seems the leather hiking boots win ! I have seen a pair of the Brasher ladies at £120 !! these were very comfy looking I have to say!
Nice to have some feedback on the Nike/Reebok "walking" boots as I may of looked at those and doesnt seemt hey are worthwhile.
The rubber bootee things I saw the other day and wondered about them!
you are not alone I have wellies for the puddle jumping days !!
the majority of our daily walks are in woods and it is my ankles I am worried about too!
Time to go shoppping I think!
thanks all

I've got a pair of leather walking boots from 'Countrywide' that cost about £25. They have just started their 5th beating season, although I do take care of them with Renapur, dubin, etc. When very wet I have neoprene lined wellies. My son (19) choses to wear Army boots or very expensive Le Chameau leather wellingtons depending on the weather. Although walking boots do provide good support, once you've had 'posh' wellies you'll never go back to the bog standard ones!

Depends where you walk - but if you buy wellies (we need them here as the ground is very puddly and slushy mud) - don't buy cheap ones :) They will break up very quickly where the upper part keeps flexing as you walk. Only good boots like Hunters etc can stand a lot of walking :)

I love my wellies. Had Hunters for a few years and now have Aigle. They really support my feet, are warm and keep me nice and dry. As I walk through a lot of fields and woods I need something to keep my legs dry and walking boots just don't work.

Berghaus - all the way :) I think they were £85 - but they don't let any water in - not even when me and Willis found ourselves in a pond

Ah, well... the pond had burst its banks, and I wasn't aware, until I had walked the three miles up to it. So, it was either "we go through the pond and get back to the car within ten mins" (it was a big round trip walk) or we go back the 3 miles...at which point Willis and I had a "Scooby Doo" moment and took the shorter option

It was freezing - water up to my knees - icy water may I add. Willis decided he liked it at this point and was jumping in and out and racing up and taking flying leaps at me. In the end I jumped over a fence and walked through the allotments and let him bound through it on his own :D The only things that were dry were my feet.
