Topic Dog Boards / Showing / dropping his back end
- By lel [gb] Date 29.10.03 14:06 UTC
Gus has a habit of dropping his back end down when the judge goes over him . Only slightly but it is noticeable .
Does anyone have any tips for this .
He used to do it when he first started showing and then he seemed to get more confident . I wonder if maybe it is because we have only done the odd show here and there since July although we have kept up the Ringcraft even when not showing .
We have tried getting lots of people to go over him and it has been mentioned to tickle him slightly underneath to take hismind off the judge.
Just that the judge on Sunday made a point of mentioning he would have got a much higher place if he hadnt done this .

hold your hand on his stifel (the turn on the back leg) and keep talking to him and reassuring him that everthing is ok! It might just be from habbit so stick with it and keep going.

I must admit I tickle my lad underneath and he stands perfectly:d Hold a titbit close to his head as well that sometimes helps. I was advised to use Vitamin B if a dog is slightly nervous and it has worked on a few dogs that I know.

I hope he gets over this soon and good luck at the shows.

Thanks Diane
where do you get Vitamin B from - is it the Holland & Barrett health type stores or from the vet ???
he seems to be ok with us when we go over him but it is worse with certain people
Cant think of any bad experiences he has had when being handled but maybe it is a male thing and he is just "protecting" his bits and pieces

Yeah that wd. be fine, give him one a day. It just seems to take the edge off. SWD's can be a little wary of people that they don't know so when one of my girls was fairly young I started her on this and only did it for a few weeks and I've never looked back. It may not work but it's worth a try.

You can get brewers yeast tablets from most chemists and they are really cheap. Vetzyme also make them (more expensive) and the dose will be on the tub.
