Hi folks, I remember reading a post a short while ago about how to tell if they were dangerous or not. Something about if they were attached to the skin (inside) or not, but can`t remember now. Anyone know what it was? Thanks.

It`s OK, I did another search & found the posts about it.
I just found 2 on Toffee, guess we`ll be at the vet tomorrow.

Hi Christine,
Hope it goes well at the vets. Give Toffee a hug from me!
Kath. xx
Hi Kath, thanks. Well you`ll not believe it took her the vets & told him but when he examined her they`ve gone! Both of us checked her all over & not a thing, he said maybe it was a little reaction to something & now it`s gone, but I don`t know. Can that happen, can they just go? They were 2 pea sized lumps, 1 at the end of her her ribs & the other one on the other side just below the middle of her ribs, when you lifted the skin they didn`t move but I got myself all worked up imagining the worst & now feel like a right fool :)
Anyway they were deffo there & now they`re deffo not!! He said just keep an eye on her & now Toffees a bit fed up just getting stroked in the same place cos every chance I get I keep trying to feel for them :D
But is that right, can lumps just come & go?

Hi Christine
Never had lumps vanish except on the neck after injections when sometimes the dog had one for a couple of weeks but guess it is good and as the vet said just keep an eye on. I get a little paranoid about lumps, my lab we lost in march had one on her chest I asked 6 vets to check it all said nothing to worry about just a pressure point, she died of cancer from that lump!! now I have all lumps needle aspirated at the very least.

I find that if a lump is "Hard Edged" and not attached then the chances are it is nothing to worry about. By hard edged I mean the edges are clearly defined when you feel them.
If the lump is not moveable and the edges are "blurred", no real edge, just fading away, then the chances are that it is serious.
I must add that neither of these definitions always follow and it pays to get all lumps checked out.
Best wishes, John
Hi Christine,
S*ds Law isn't it? :) It might be that they were cysts which are fluid filled sacs. I think they can sometimes empty by themselves but may fill up again so you're wise to keep checking.
I found this extract for you.....
"Not every lump or bump on your dog will be a tumor. Some superficial bumps are due simply to plugged oil glands in the skin, called sebaceous cysts. Skin cysts can be composed of dead cells or even sweat or clear fluid; these often rupture on their own, heal, and are never seen again".
This is the whole article...

Hi folks, thanks for the reassuance :) They were very defined even tho they were small.so I think that describes them hard edged but they didn`t move. The vet mentioned something about cysts but I was to busy trying to find them I was only listening with 1 ear! :) I automatically thought the worst, just being paranoid I suppose, but will keep a close eye on her all the same! :)
Toffee is trying to stay away from me tho, she`s fed up cos I keep stroking her in the same place & she doesn`t like it, thing is I can`t stop looking for the damn things to see if they`ve moved somewhere else

Seriously tho I`ll just go back to checking once a day now when I`m stroking her :)
Thanks again
Christine, Spain.
