hi guys i have a question regarding hip scoring, i have a 1yr old G.S.D bitch i had her spayed at 8months old i didnt get any papers with her when i bought her(bad experience with breeder wont be fooled again) anyway what is the best age to get her hip scored as i would like to know what her score is and is it just the vet that i take her to, do i need to apply to anywhere else and does any1 know roughly how much it would cost? i live in the Falkirk area in Scotland?

If you don't have her registration documents I don't think she can be officially scored.

The only way would be if you registered her yourself on the working register.

Sibies74,
When having our Akita bitch scored we had to produce Pedigree papers and KC registration paper.

ok your dog needs to be regastard (you can get her reged with the KC as a working/obedience dog etc)
Your vet will proberly do the hip scoring BUT i say look around at other local vets and compare prices. My grandparents have been looking at getting there dogs hips scored and the prices they have been quoted and ranged from £80-£200

It's not just prices you need to compare, but the vet's experience in x-raying hips. A poor-quality x-ray (taken by a vet who isn't used to doing them for scoring purposes) can give a bad score, even if the dog's hips are good!

hi every1 thanks for all your advice given can any1 tell me how to go about registering her as you have mentioned as a working dog?? do i need details of her mother, father grandparents etc???
Hi sibies,
If you look on the kennel club website, and look at the forms to download, you'll see one called something like "obedience & working trials register", if you print one of those off, you can just fill it in. However with the obedience register you cannot show the pups and you don't need details of their parents.

It was originally designed to allow non registered dogs, pedigree or cross, to compete in working competitions such as obedience or working trials. By registering on this register your dog will have the necessary documentation to take part in any of the KC/BVA health screening schemes.
Best wishes, John
