I have for some time being toying with the idea of changing disinfectants but the chaps at Countrywide are not too sure how safe they are for using to cleanse slabs etc outside where the dogs go.
I alot of choices.
Can anybody let me know whether they use any of these and how they use them as I currently use Dettol which is fine but works out very expensive. I have tried Sorgene but smelt very much like bleach and made my eyes water so felt it was not suitable.
The choices I have left are:
Virkon which comes in a powder
Long Life 250S
Hyperox
Your feedback would be greatfully appreciated.

Hi Lucy,
I use Jeyes Fluid find this excellent.I dilute 65ml / 5L water, some may dislike the smell but
it doesn't bother me or the dogs, just wash down well smell soon goes.It kills just about
anything it was used alot during the foot and mouth outbreak.Has not stained the slabs or anything.I use it in the kennel and run and around the back door where I have discovery panels on block paves.
Hope this helps.

I need something that will be safe immediately for the girls to go out as they have the dog flap staright out to their area.
I presume once the jeyes fluid has been rinsed with ahose it will be safe? Can buy it in bulk form any where ?

Can't comment on your choices you have left, but I scrub my slabs down with Domestos, leave it down for about an hour and then rinse it off. It's definately my first choice :) It brings my slabs up gleaming as well.

Virkon is very strong & is used more in commercial / industrial places. It is good if there has been an infection / disease on the premises, but perhaps too strong for day to day cleaning. Good old bleach is as good as anything.
Used to use VIRKON at work (NHS) but stopped using it due to health risks with the POWDER. The liquid was OK but we couldnt make any solutions from the powder and to buy in liquid form was too expensive. So we dropped the product. :D

I have just bumped a post to the top under the General category called 'washing down kennels' where you will find lots of interesting information to help you with your choice.

I've used Domestos for years with no ill-effects. Hose it on, leave it, then rinse off well.
For a short time I tried Jeyes Fluid - didn't like the smell, it reminded me of old public lavs! My dogs contracted conjunctivitis, which could have been coincidence, but when I stopped using Jeyes, they stopped having conjunctivitis

how, about the NEW PETFRESH prouduct on the market,
it a urine odouer eliminator.
a special formula of enzymes and mirco-organisms eliminates the uric and salts that cause odour and stains.petfresh more effective than other cleaners, beacuse other products tend to clear some of the urine and then disguise the smell with a stronge frangrance, petfresh actually removes the urine odour and stain, also petfresh uses no hazardous CHEMICALS to remove the odour, unlike other cleaning products,
it safe for the pets,it friendly to the enviroment,
i use to used jeyes fluid but some one told me of the health hazardos you can get from this product so i stop using it.in the kennel run.

Hi,
Reading back of Jeyes Fluid if the correct amount is used ie 65ml/5litres for kennels there
is no health hazzard ,I always use correct amount, wear gloves and hose thoughly never
experienced a better product I would imagine if anything used too strongly,or don't wear gloves etc there is always a potential health hazzard even for domestos I always wear gloves and it carries an irritant symbol on their products.
Just my opinion, its a pain measuring amount out but its there for a reason ,I've seen people guess the amount and tip into runs ,toilets, buckets etc ,but then If I use Domestos I measure out.Used sensibly I don't see a problem!
