Hiya
Dylan has been to his training class tonight, he's getting quite good now & we've moved up from the puppy class. I know this may sound a bit dumb, but could anyone tell me why some of the dogs have (I think theyre called) 'halties' (??) on? Does it make it easier to control them??

Big dogs especially are easier to "lead" with a halti so I believe because they have less strength in the head than in the neck/body :)

Oh I see, I was wondering if it was to calm them down if they got too tricky to handle. Dylan is a Cocker & hes daft as a brush when we're there, I dont think we'll ever get him to calm down lol

well my cocker bella got loose of her harness last yea when another dog off its lead came up barking at her. so i decided i needed more control so off i went to the pet shop and bought a halti cant rember the size think it might have been a 7 tried it on it dident fit way to big .
so went back tried smaller size way too small haha so tried another type of head colla yet again to big .came back the next day and tired one it fitted but . i dident like it at all it came to close to the eyes the dog was trying to paw it off dont think they feel very nice to wear . so i think it would stress the dog out more. i got a loopy harness much better:D

Don't forget though that Haltis are easy to slip out of - there is a gadget you can get to clip the lead to both the halti and the dogs collar for added safety - or you can use two leads (one on the halti and one on the collar) or a double ended lead with one end cliped to the halti and one on the collar. Also Haltis should never be used with an extending lead as they can cause damage to the neck.....

All hail to roger mugford, during the first 18 months a halti is a godsend for some owners, and this includes me,no more muscles like Arnie and dogs are sooo under control until I get to park for one on one training.

We started with a Gentle Leader for our Gordon Setter Bess as she could pull me at such a high speed on our walks I was but a blur!! However she would struggle to remove it and it would ride up into her eyes. However Champdogs to the rescue!! I read about the DOGMATIC on this site. It is made of leather rather like a horse's bridle and does not move up her nose. There are many sizes according to breed and the company will also make them to order. Walking with Bess is now a pleasure - only thing is when strangers see her wearing it some seem to think it is a muzzle for an aggressive dog and shy away from her. Well I suppose Bess can get pushy with her nuzzling...........;)
