Hello,
I have been thinking for some time about a cavalier puppy and my recent posts for help on this site have been full of advice for which has been very helpful.
However at the weekend, a lady who lives down my road and she is elderly has a 4 yr old cav bitch and she is wanting to rehome her. The lady has recently had a fall and is unable to give the exercise and time to her cav. She knew that I was thinking about a puppy and has asked me if I would be interested ? She is not KC registered though I do recall her going through the ckcs club to get the puppy. I have know her for over 10 years and she has always had cavs. My little ones see the cav regularly if she is out walking and she always lets them stroke her etc.
My reason for asking advice is because those who gave me advice stressed the fact of knowing about where the pup came from because of heart problems etc. I personally don't know and can only go on what our neighbour has told us. She lives in a nice area in a nice home and the cavs are always obediant and clean looking (if that makes sense) !!! I am tempted but would like to know what you think. Thanks again.

If you know this lady and her dog and you only want a nice pet and she isn't asking alot of money then i would say it sounds okay this dog will need a home and you want a pet, ask if you can have her checked at the vets first.

If you aren't worried about having her registered then I'd say go for it! The lady has a very valid reason for not being able to keep her (unlike most I've heard) and it sounds like you'd be helping eachother out :D
Saves her becomming another statistic and saves you having to house train a pup now the bad weather is here ;)

Personally, I would go for it - if you have her insured, even if there should be a health problem, you would have covered vets' fees! As you have said, this lady has a valid reason for rehoming her, it will familiarise you and your family with the breed more, and maybe, in a couple of years, you could get another one for showing, if that's what you want.
Regards
Margot
