hi,
does anyone know anything about giant rabbits? or any ideas where i can find more info on them?
My mum and sisters bunny was eaten on thursday night, most distressing he was a semi house rabbit so part of the family - shared a bed with the dog when no one was looking!!!
Little sister's convinced mum that the best way to get over it is to get another one and they have decided they want a giant one but we don't really know where to go - not convinced about a pet shop, as they would possibly like to show it!!
they live nr manchester, would be willing to travel but would prefer not too, and my mum doesn't want to spend an absolute fortune!! (alice said nothing would get in the way!!!!)
If any one's got any ideas please email me at kayleya@tiscali.co.uk or reply to this post!! Many thanks,

Kayley.

P.S. It wasn't the dog that ate Bugsy!!!

You need to conatact the British Rabbit Council (the governing body for pedigree Rabbits). they will be able to put you in touch with the breed clubs for the Flemish Giant, British Giant, and the chin giganta. French and English Lops are pretty big too, but the nFrench would be better as a house and loose Rabbit.

thanks will try and find a website for them!!. Bugsy lived in his hutch and run at nightand whilst no-ones home, but had free run of the garden and sometimes the house the rest of the time.
It's funny though despite the worries they had before they got the first rabbit (had several now) the biggest problem thet had was trying to get Fitz (the beardie) out of the hutch - yes the hutch not the run - not even while the bunny was in it - he thought it should belong to him!! lol

Just a word on foxes. I live in a city on a housing estate with a couple of "green spaces" in the middle. The other morning around 6am I was walking my dog on the playing fields and we spotted what I thought was a dog. I kid you not it was the size of a border collie. My dog was going bananas (thankfully he was on the lead) and this "dog" turned and looked at us and came a bit closer. It was actually a fox and it was huge. I have no doubt it would have killed or seriously injured my dog never mind a rabbit had my dog gone for it. Urban foxes are now a bit of a nuisance as they get easy pickings from rubbish bags left on the street, cats and other small animals. There have been a few "lost cat" notices recently and I suspect the foxes might have something to do with it.

I had a giant bunny, she was amazing and lived for 8 years. I don't have a scanner otherwise I would email you a photo of her, but she was much bigger than our large cat! If you get in touch with someone who shows rabbits they will be able to put you in contact with a breeder. You should expect to pay about £30 for one, but this isn't much more than you would pay for a 'normal' rabbit at Pet Smart I believe. Our Rosie was a giant cashmere lop and lived in the garden but used the cat flap. She was incredibly heavy and was so big you couldn't hold her on your lap unless sat on the floor. Try http://www.thebrc.org for contact information. It's a good idea to approach the rescue people but just be careful as they are so big they can cause quite a bit of damage if not used to being handled.

Ooh you've made me all sentimental now, I vowed never to have another rabbit when our last one 'went' (not sure where she went, just wasn't there one day!). It was such good training for our spaniels, no need for a rabbit pen!

Good luck.
