Have had my cocker bitch pup for two and a half weeks now. She is ten weeks old and her poos are always sloppy. I feed her the food the breeder gave me which is greyhound food dry complete. When do puppy poos become formed and solid? Is this normal for my Jess? I dont feed her anything else, just her dry food, with a drop of water 4 times a day.
I do want to change her food and know that it has to be gradual. I have bought a bag of autarky puppy and plan to start changing over from tomorrow. The reason for this is the food she's on now is very low in meat protein and mostly cereal content according to the bag.
advice appreciated as new dog owner.
Thanks a lot
Linda
You could try adding a spoon or two of natural youghurt to her food. It usualy works, and if it doesn't it will do her no harm, and dogs usualy like it.

I had alot of problems with my youngest cav with sloppy poo when I first got her at 9 wks. She was having really bad sloppy poo so the vet told me to give her a light diet of cooked chicken, pasta and scramled eggs (no milk in them) for 3 days, this worked but as soon as she went back onto her food it started again. It turned out she had an intolerance to the food she was on (bakers complete) so i gradually changed her onto Iams ans she has been fine ever since.

Thank goodness you are changing her off greyhound food thats not food for other dogs, Autarky is good as i have been useing it for a while now and very pleased but i also use green tripe for the second meal, start to change the food now and in a day or two she will be fine.

I was just about to ask why a cocker spaniel was on greyhound food?

I think alot of these ' breeders use greyhound food just to save money on there food bill never mind that it isn't for other dogs only greyhounds, there are lots of ways to feed these days but to rear pups on inadequate food and on the cheap is wrong.

No this is'nt normal your puppy should be firm by now ,you some time 's find puppy's can be a little loose when there due to be wormed ,but with your puppy bein loose all the time i would definetly say it is the food she is bein feed. glad to hear your changing food, greyhound complete is not at all suitable for your puppy, have to agree with corso girl, some breeder's(well if you can call them breeder's) do use this as it is a cheap source of food, bringing a litter up as cheaply as posssible, just thinking of the profit(get's me so mad)
as you've said do the change over gradually, once you've completed the change over you'll find your puppy will come on leaps and bound's :)
