How are clumbers in the field? Thank you for your feedback.

We used to have clumbers working our shoot when we were in Pembrokeshire. Great characters, rather slower than the springer, but persistent game finders, probably because they're slower. These ones were rather hard on their birds, but that could be found in any breed I suppose.

There is a "working clumber spaniel club". We have had several on my shoot. They do work slower than springer spaniels but are good game finders.

There was an article on working Clumbers in Shooting Times not all that long ago. Working Clumbers are thin on the ground but as Jo and Polly have said, by no means extinct!!! :)

They are slow methodical workers, great game finders with fantastic noses. TH has a very soft mouth. But beware, they are fiends to train. Plus they have lots of "personality" around the home.

Debbie Zurick, Secretary of the WCSS, is doing a great job raising their profile. They are not popular and don't do well at field trials as their style is so radically different from the other spaniels. They do very well at the minor spaniel trials though.

Ones with working breeding are difficult to find and puppies now start in excess of £600.
